Last night [livejournal.com profile] phaballa and I went to a pop music singalong at the Alamo Drafthouse, but were saddened by the fact that the omnipresent host Drafthouse Henri was not present.

First, this is a promo for the singalong we went to, just to give you a sense of the whole thing:

To feed my Drafthouse Henri fix, I decided to go look for some of his YouTube vids.

Henri's crush on Justin Timberlake is so cute! Rock Your Body... )
The original Cedar Fever video: 'Giiirl, you gave meee the clap...' )
Ickle Henry attempts to film a porny threeway. )

Oh, Henri... come back to us!
emmagrant01: (embarrassed)
In a flocked post, someone on my flist posted a funny picture that inspired me to attempt humor. Not satisfied with merely embarrassing myself under flock, I felt compelled to inflict it upon all of you. At least I have the courtesy of cutting it, right? ;-)

With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy: You might be a prostitute if... )

There's a reason I'm not a comedian... :-P

Give me V-Day love?

Apparently I don't get to open them until Valentine's Day. :-D

Recent discussions about the subtle variations in how English is spoken in different places got me thinking about the less-than-subtle variations. I'm not a linguist by any stretch (though I did take a few courses in linguistics in college as part of one of my majors), but I've always been fascinated by the ways language evolves.

I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains, and there were definitely some interesting quirks in the language. )

What words are unique to the area you live in?
emmagrant01: (snow globe)
I'm putting together a playlist of fun and naughty holiday songs -- you know, the sort you would listen to on your iPod when you're sick of your relatives and need a break. I've got a head start thanks to [livejournal.com profile] phaballa, [livejournal.com profile] sithdragn and others, but I'm out looking for more. :-D Here's the list so far:

The Night Santa Went Crazy by Weird Al Yankovic
Chocolate Salty Balls by Chef (from South Park)
Christmas is All Around by Billy Mack (from Love, Actually)
Dick in a Box by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg (from last night's SNL)
Ganja by Bitch and Animal
The Chanukah Song by Adam Sandler
All I Want For CHristmas by Draco & the Malfoys

What songs would you recommend for this playlist?
emmagrant01: (snow globe)
What would you put in my Christmas stocking? )

Edit: Wow. It's going to be a lovely Christmas! ;-)
emmagrant01: (That's hot)
1. Oh, wow! I got picked in the lottery for [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas!! Considering that the chances were about 50%, maybe that's not such a big thing to be surprised about (compared to winning other things), but still, yay!

2. There's a new HP fanfic awards site, The Sorting Hat. It's all about nominating fics that are written along a variety of themes. I haven't actually read a lot of fic that fits the themes this round, but I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the nominating process.

3. LOL, [livejournal.com profile] animegurl65 wrote me Remus/Giles porn! :-D

4. [livejournal.com profile] cdz_kannon_z pointed me to this awesome vid that does HP GOF "opening credits" in the style of BtVS. Love it!

5. Why am I surprised that there is a porn version of YouTube? Because I shouldn't be. (Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] princesskirtsy!)

And now, I need to get to work...

It sucks to be away from home and loved ones on your birthday, but the awesome thing about fandom is that it's portable. :-) Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday! It was so, so nice to look at my flist and see all those birthday wishes. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] lauramcewan for spending the afternoon with me yesterday! It was fantastic just to get a chance to talk to you again. And sesame balls! ;-)

It was also [livejournal.com profile] mijan's birthday yesterday, and we were given a couple of joint birthday fics:

[livejournal.com profile] hazelhawthorne wrote Proxy, or What Happens to Harry when He Listens to Fred and George. See a POTC slasher write H/D smut! :-D

[livejournal.com profile] marcasita wrote a lovely bit of H/D crack, Up the Ante.

I posted about this one earlier, but it's worth pointing to again: [livejournal.com profile] mijan drew me H/D smut! (NWS)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] furiosity and [livejournal.com profile] rabidpotterfan for the virtual balloons!

And a LOL-worthy graphic by [livejournal.com profile] clara_swift (originally posted here) is under the cut: )
emmagrant01: (Lumos slots)
OMG just a few days until Lumos!

This is mostly for my own reference, but also here for any friends who might be looking for me -- or anyone who hasn't yet figured out what events they're going to and wants to see what I'm doing in order to avoid me. ;-) I somehow wound up on four panels in addition to teaching in the Magical Night Classes, so it's going to be a busy weekend!

If you know of any meet-ups you think I'd be interested in that I haven't mentioned in here, please let me know. There was an awesome [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies meet-up at TWH, but I haven't heard if there's one planned for Lumos.

Also, we'll be recording segments for [livejournal.com profile] slashcast and handing out Slashcast buttons throughout Lumos, so be sure to ask for a button from me, [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1, [livejournal.com profile] glockgal, [livejournal.com profile] karaz, [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze, [livejournal.com profile] longleggedgit, or Aspen ([livejournal.com profile] cursescar).

So what am I missing?  Other get-togethers?  Also, I'm not leaving until Monday afternoon. Who else is sticking around?

ETA: Very Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] wordplay (we're the same age now, mwahaha!) and [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii (see you soon!). Also, a very Happy First Anniversary to [livejournal.com profile] hearts_n_roses and her lovely wife!

Thank you!

I see that the love meme maxed out on comments. Good for us!

I didn't reply to any comments people left for me on this thread (and gosh, these too) because I didn't want to take up space for other people to get loved on, but I wanted to say that I was really touched by the comments people made! Thanks so much for that. Fandom can be a really strange place sometimes, but every now and then things like this happen that remind me why I fell in love with it in the first place. :-)

On another note entirely, two comms I used to mod have been taken on by new folks. [livejournal.com profile] hp_quince is now being modded by [livejournal.com profile] wook77 and [livejournal.com profile] novel_fanfic is now being modded by [livejournal.com profile] piscaria. There is a post here on the latter asking for feedback about how you'd like to see the comm be developed. Thanks to both of these awesome women for taking on these comms!

*smooches to everyone*

This one is all over my flist, but it sounds interesting. What the heck?

Ask Me My Fandom Opinion

How this works:

1. Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Ask anything...I'm really not bothered.

2. ONE DAMN QUESTION.-- Nah, you can ask more than one, but I might or might not answer it.

3. That's it. It can be as normal or odd as you like.
emmagrant01: (A cutie)
You may have seen this email several times already, as it often makes the rounds, but it's pretty cute. Ack, so many of these are true for me!

You were a little girl in the 70s if... )

We had a LOT of fun on Saturday night, and I'm so happy to have had the chance to meet all these wonderful women! When I posted that I'd be in New York and asked if people wanted to get together, I had no idea the response would be so huge! There were 20 of us all being fangirly and naughty, and we all had a blast!

Naughty pics behind the cut )
emmagrant01: (HP Infinities)
The dork mark [livejournal.com profile] dramaphile drew on my arm last night hasn't faded one bit. I think I've been branded! We had tons of fun last night, and I'll post more about it later.

I want to pimp the HP Infinities Project, because I think it has a lot of potential. It's a "Choose your own adventure" writing group. One person writes the beginning of the story and other people write the endings. Everything is organized via the mailing list, and finished stories are posted on the LJ comm, [livejournal.com profile] hp_infinities.

I want to invite anyone who is interested in participating to come and join the group. We need authors and artists. The lead stories are gen in nature, so the endings can go any direction you like -- het, slash, crack, plot, PWP, whatever. To see what we've got going, check out the files section of the Yahoo group where the lead stories are posted. You can write an ending for any of them; you just have to contact the lead author of that particular story and they'll fill you in on how to post your ending.

The newest lead story to be posted is by [livejournal.com profile] princesskariboo, and it's hilarious! I can't wait to see what endings people will come up with for it. :-)
emmagrant01: (coffee)
Just quiz results. )

On a completely different note: I may not have been posting a lot of fic lately, but I've been writing quite a lot. I submitted a fic to [livejournal.com profile] hp_loveletters, and my (very late, so sorry, Robin!) submission for [livejournal.com profile] hp_springsmut is almost finished. After that one's done, I can get back to writing other things at last! (Viki and Abby, I swear I'm still in it!) Between Smutmas, Jedi Santa, HP Infinities, and these two exchanges, I think I overcommitted myself this fall. :-P

Don't get me wrong -- I love writing for fic exchanges, because they push me to write pairings and scenarios I may not have attempted otherwise. Writing a fic for a particular person's tastes can be a challenging task, and it's a lot of fun to try to do it. I tend to like working with deadlines and pressure, though, which means I almost always procrastinate and often only start working on these fics a week or two before the deadline. That sort of intensity is usually part of my process; I mark out blocks of several hours at a time (when MDH is travelling and I've nothing better to do in the evenings) and bury myself in writing. But this last month, I had little time to spare, and I really paid the price for waiting. Still, I'm proud of the two fics I wrote, and I don't think they would have turned out as well if I hadn't written them quickly and intensely. That seems to work for me as a writer, painful as it can be.

All right, back to work. *sips coffee*

ETA: Oh, Splenda! How lovely to have you back in the break room! So much better than sugar or the pink stuff!

ETA 2: [livejournal.com profile] lightstarangel and I have found the (unavailable in the US) purse-packet Splenda tablets for sale online here! :-D
emmagrant01: (Yoda crazy)
Harrison Ford was on Conan O'Brian tonight, and Conan did something I've never seen anyone do (but always hoped for): he asked Harrison Ford about the Star Wars Holiday Special! It was just so funny that I had to rewind the ol' Tivo, download the clip to my computer, convert it to an mpeg, and post it for everyone to enjoy. And if you've never experienced the exquisite torture of the SWHS, can you really call yourself a Star Wars fan?

The clip is on YSI here (40 MB). Let me know when the link runs out and I'll refresh it. Enjoy!

ETA: Meep! I've exceeded my bandwidth for the month already! I just had to buy more bandwidth, so I've taken the link down from my site. Again, let me know if the YSI link has run out.

I just returned to the hotel after a lovely afternoon of hanging out with a bunch of Bay Area slashers! There was [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier, [livejournal.com profile] swtjemz, [livejournal.com profile] zahavah, [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93, [livejournal.com profile] jamoche, and [livejournal.com profile] shudaizi. We had tapas and bubble tea and chatted about everything from slash to... slash. ;-) We strolled through Chinatown and had to stop to take photos of a GIANT wooden penis in a shop window! That pic is going to be made into an icon when I get home.

It was awesome to meet y'all! If you have a night out and all go to The Cafe or SF Asia, have a drink for me, K?

It was a gorgeous sunny day, and I had a little moment of geeky fannish glee when I realized that it was two years ago today that Harry portkeyed to San Francisco and met Draco... again. (In my little fic universe, at least. :-P)

[livejournal.com profile] se_spotwood, did you get the voice mail from me and [livejournal.com profile] swtjemz?
emmagrant01: (Char for Mayor)
Does Char hate me? )

My grades are done! I'm free until January! And now I'm off to have pancakes with [livejournal.com profile] jedirita, yay!

Oh, and you Xanatos fans out there should not miss this (semi-worksafe) art. ;-)
