I have truly been blessed with an amazing amount of art created for fics I've written. I'm always amazed when something I've written inspires someone else to be creative!

One of the things I love most about Tumblr is that it's easy to post and share graphics there. I realize this is a feature some people hate about it, and I totally understand their reasons. However, I LOVE gifsets, which are abundant on Tumblr. I find them fantastically creative and a very clever way of telling stories.

And to my huge delight, the lovely (Pondmelody) has created lots of gifsets for one of my fics. Some of them have an insane number of notes already, and if you follow me on Tumblr you may have seen some of these already. I've linked to them from the text of the fic on AO3, but I thought I'd make a little masterpost of all of them because they are just that awesome. :-)


Chapter 1:

The amazing Doublenegativemeansyes over on Tumblr posted this very gorgeous,NSFW, and aptly titled piece called Cinnamon today.

The SOUNDS that came out of my mouth when I saw this. I mean seriously, OMFG. Not only is it incredibly hot and gorgeous and evocative, but it actually had the effect of showing me something I hadn't really seen in my OWN freaking fic. I think that because I was inside John's head for that entire fic, a lot of it didn't read to me as hot or even all that kinky. It was more about the emotional journey John was going on and the lengths he was willing to go to in order to be closer to Sherlock. He enjoys the things that happen to him, but mostly he enjoys the effect it all has on Sherlock, and so he's not thinking about himself so much, if that makes sense. So I saw this art this morning and had a moment of 0_0 at the thought that that is what people see in that scene. It's hard to explain, but I really hadn't thought about Sherlock sitting there coolly observing and this random unidentified guy hovering sort of dangerously behind John, because I was John when I wrote it, and I couldn't see any of that. That probably makes no sense. :-P

It's still such a strange thing to me that this fic is so insanely popular because I don't really understand why it has wide appeal. When I first wrote it I really thought a handful of people would enjoy it, but the fandom would mostly ignore it because it's not all fluffy-happy Johnlock love. It's sort of cracky and a bit dark and kinky and involves lots of casual sex in many variations, and I really thought that would turn most people off and they wouldn't actually read the love story underneath it all. I'm still sort of boggling about how it's got a life of its own, completely separate from me at this point. Very weird, but also very cool. :-)

But that art: Isn't that amazing? Gah.

There was an incredibly gorgeous piece of Obi/Bail fan art posted on jedi__santa this morning. (NOT WORK SAFE!!)

It just captures so much of what I love about that pairing, that whole "The Prince and the Padawan" dynamic. lauramcewan, you are a lucky woman!

And on a totally different fandom note: Alan Rickman Joins Sweeney Todd Film: Alan Rickman will play Judge Turpin in the cast of the film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Sweeney Todd, the actor’s representation has confirmed. Tim Burton will direct the film, which stars Johnny Depp as Sweeney and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett. Sacha Baron Cohen plays the supporting role of Signor Adolfo Pirelli.
