Okay, any central Texas peeps out there want to make a plan for the midnight showing of the last HP movie? I just checked Alamo Drafthouse, and they're SOLD OUT. Tickets went on sale on Monday, and they're already gone. DUDE. Clearly, we need a plan.

Who's in?

I realize this is coming really late, but I just saw HP7A for the third time today, and wanted to take a moment to write down some thoughts.

First of all, I really... )

I went to have lunch with DH today, and as soon as he got in the car he said, "Let's play hooky and go see Star Trek instead." I don't need to be asked twice! So that was awesome.

It was his first time seeing it, and he's a old-skool Trekker. Some of his thoughts here, cut in case you still need to cut for ST XI spoilers. )

Oh, I love that movie. So much.

I'm sure this was posted a few weeks back when it first appeared, but it was new to me. ;-)

From the March 16 issue of Entertainment Weekly: Coed Naked Quidditch! )

I keep meaning to keep a record of the gay-themed movies I watch, and I'm going to try to do so from here on out. Tonight I watched a film called Blue Citrus Hearts, something I picked up off of my Blockbuster list.

For the Bible Tells Me So

"If you’ve ever felt irked – or worse – by those few biblical passages about “abomination,” or if they’ve ever put an awkward distance – or worse – between you and a friend or colleague or loved one or a favorite aunt or uncle, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO is a film that you absolutely must see. Director Daniel Karslake’s inclusive approach ingeniously reconciles homosexuality, biology and scripture through the prism of the family; indeed, most of the film is devoted to five very normal, very Christian, very American families – families with names like Gephardt and Robinson – and how they handled learning that they had a gay child. FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO is neither a pedantic screed nor an academic treatise, yet its theology is informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard’s Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech. The movie even has a cartoon."

It's playing at Sundance now. I hope it comes to a theater near me.

Read about the background of the film here -- it's incredibly inspiring.

On a semi-related note, I saw an item in Entertainment Weekly that Alan Cumming married Grant Schaffer a few weeks ago in London. (Here is a story on it I just googled.) And I almost passed it by without much thought, but then I thought, wow -- good for EW for inserting a gay marriage item into their "Marriages" column just like a straight marriage! It's that kind of thing that will make gay marriage a reality someday. When it becomes something that you see everywhere, with no great distinction, the bigots won't have a leg left to stand on. :-)

To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar is playing on the Sundance channel right now! Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo in drag! Cameos by Ru Paul and Robin Williams! And of course, the "statuesque" Miss Julie Newmar. ;-)
emmagrant01: (got slash?)
Isn't it funny how being a slasher changes your perspective on things? I'm watching Little Shop of Horrors on TV this afternoon, which I haven't seen in years, and OMG!!!

There is an amazingly slashy scene between Steve Martin and Bill Murray, in which Steve Martin (the sadistic dentist) meets his match in a masochistic patient (Murray). The subtext of that scene is AMAZING. How did I not see that before? Holy shit!!! It's not even subtle!

I love that you can find everything on YouTube these days. :-D

Film rec

A few months ago, I signed up for Blockbuster's version of netflix and did a search on "gay" to fill up my queue. So basically, they send me gay-themed films to watch, and most of them I've never heard of.

I just watched the most adorable film I've seen in ages, and I really want to rec it to everyone. It's a romantic comedy about a 30-something man finally realizing he's gay, and it's fantastic! If you love slash, you really should try to get hold of a copy. If you can watch it with other slashers, even better.
