A few months ago, I signed up for Blockbuster's version of netflix and did a search on "gay" to fill up my queue. So basically, they send me gay-themed films to watch, and most of them I've never heard of.

I just watched the most adorable film I've seen in ages, and I really want to rec it to everyone. It's a romantic comedy about a 30-something man finally realizing he's gay, and it's fantastic! If you love slash, you really should try to get hold of a copy. If you can watch it with other slashers, even better.

I added to my queue! Thanks! It should balance out the 4000 David Hewlett movies so I look like I have some class.

Yay! I was skeptical that I'd like this internet movie renting thing, but it's been a fantastic way to find movies I would never see in my local store.

sorry! One more thing!

I love your icon, and its cool you know who Jim Slomovits is. Its just you switched around your spelling in the credit. It just was bothering me, so I thought I'd point it out! But yeah, hes brilliant.

Thanks for the rec! I've been doing the same thing, also on Blockbuster (you can find my recs here).

I'm going to have to stop depending on the user ratings for recs, though, because they always seem way off from my opinions. Have you noticed this?

Thanks! You know, I haven't actually looked too closely at the user ratings.

If I may suggest a movie that's completely different, at least for me, it was called "Adored" it's a foreign film, I want to say it was in Italian, with English subtitles. It was very good. Because, really, what's better than a film about a gay porn star?

It's also available at Blockbuster.

May I suggest Just a Question of Love? It's French. The plot is a tad bit formulaic, but the acting and the enthusiasm and message more than makes up for any predictability. I was pleasantly surprised by that film.

Better Than Chocolate has got to be my absolute favourite gay/lesbian movie. Not sure how well known that one is. It's Canadian, of all things :)

I don't think I've seen your movie. I will have to check it out!

I'd also recommend , especially if you even remotely want to know what it would look like if movie!Cedric and movie!Viktor got in on (http://physixxx.livejournal.com/64252.html)... because they look strikingly like Robert and Stanley. I guess it was a made-for-tv movie in France, but i'm sure if Netflix had it, then Blockbuster online has it, too.

Subtitled, of course... but it's a sweet, if not sometimes too sugary movie.

also, there's the PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED (gay version) called ALMOST NORMAL that's kinda funny... i liked it, actually.

that and COWBOYS AND ANGELS... pure, british, class.

It sounds really good, might take a while to find in the tiny town i live in though.

Another one i just saw, it has a bit of a gay theme, is Stage Beauty. It's about the men who played women in Shakespearian times and how it affected them when that became illegal. It has Billy Crudup, and i love him.

Yay! I'm always looking for queer films ... the last few I saw depressed me beyond all reason, much as I loved them (Brokeback Mountain, Lilies). I'll have to track down a copy -- thanks so much for the rec!

I rent from Hollywood Videos and have found a really good selection of gay themed movies there. They may not have a huge number of copies, but a decent selection just the same. I always look at the dvd trailers to see what other releases there are. Just have to remember to make a list because I can never remember movie names when I get to the store.

Latter Days has to be my favorite one. I still cry every time I see that scene in the restaurant where they find each other again. It was a definite go out and buy it.

Almost Normal was cute. For every 40something gay man who had a high school crush that he never got over.

Recently saw Dorian Blue, which I thought was pretty good.

Stage Beauty is worth the rent just to see Vernon Dursley as a swishing fop. It ended very tritely tho, he finally plays a male on stage and is now heterosexual. That came across as lame to me.

Mambo Italiano was really good and funny too.
