There was a nightly drabble group at Prophecy that was led by the intrepid [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes, which was all sorts of awesome. I only participated one night, but I forgot to post my little drabble here, so.

The prompt was to choose 3 of the following: a Gryffindor, a trenchcoat, magical devices, and a kink.

So here's what I wrote. Crackish. )

Still in Toronto, hanging out in the Room of Requirement with everyone who's still here: [livejournal.com profile] tracy_loo_hoo, [livejournal.com profile] sexts, [livejournal.com profile] anathema91, [livejournal.com profile] alaana_fair, [livejournal.com profile] sesheta_66, [livejournal.com profile] fionafawkes, [livejournal.com profile] hazelhawthorne, [livejournal.com profile] shadowpryde, [livejournal.com profile] gothfirefaerie, [livejournal.com profile] aurorarain, [livejournal.com profile] acromantular, [livejournal.com profile] mijan, [livejournal.com profile] zedmeister, and [livejournal.com profile] reciprocity_. We ordered in food and are now sitting around and talking, being online, reading fic aloud, giving each other massages, etc. The hotel staff found us at one point, but were nice enough to let us stay. I think they realized it was better for us to hang out down here away from the rest of the hotel guests than to be doing all of this in the lobby. It's nice to have a private place to hang out, actually. It makes you feel like the con isn't quite over!

I'm on my way home tomorrow, and I'll make a more comprehensive Prophecy post then.

Edit: After a fire alarm drove us into the lobby at 12:30, we hooked up with everyone else and decided to stay in the lobby, where it seems that the 150 or so people who are still here are currently congregated. Happily, [livejournal.com profile] snapetoy has just hooked us up with some Young!Snupin porn, which we huddled into a corner to watch -- yes, in the lobby. The guy who spent the comm as Professor Moody popped by, gave us a very disapproving look, and walked away very quickly! ;-)

And OMG there is Mary Poppins porn. :-P

Edit 2: Moody just came back over and looked again, and said, "You girls are gross!" Toy replied, "We like it that way." *snerk*

I went to two panels today in which a good chunk of the panel time was spent talking about the current LJ crisis. It was a good thing, though, as it felt sort of like a community meeting, with everyone tossing out ideas and banding together. It was like everyone needed a chance to get their frustrations out. We know how to wank hard in this fandom, but we seem to come together when we need to.

More on this. )

Back to Prophecy stuff. )

Last night was a laaaate night, so this morning got a late start too. Picked up my name tag, had breakfast, ran into [livejournal.com profile] mijan, and eventually met up with [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes, [livejournal.com profile] djin7, [livejournal.com profile] daddybear716 and more people I can't remember at the moment.

Meet-ups! Squee! Wizard Rock! OOTP! )

Oh, and I see from a quick scan of my flist that a couple of HP fanartists have been suspended. 6A sure knows how to time these things, don't they? :-/

I'm here!!! I had a hell of a travel day, and my luggage has yet to join me. Hopefully it will arrive soon, because I have nothing but the clothes on my back. Okay, and my laptop, but I can't wear that. :-P

[livejournal.com profile] hazelhawthorne picked me up from the airport this afternoon and we checked into the Sheraton, then headed down to see who we could find. We almost immediately started running people we knew and ended up having dinner with [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii and [livejournal.com profile] kriken, which was fun.

I finally had to come up to the room and take a nap, as I got almost no sleep last night. We were originally going to go out tonight with some folks who were heading to a club, but I have to say I'm too tired to do it. (I'm getting old, aren't I?) Besides, I kind of want to hang out and wait for my luggage.

We may go hang out in the lobby bar area in a bit and see who we can find!

2. [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 is looking for volunteers to help organize a special fandom video to be shown at the Saturday luncheon at Prophecy. Details are here.

3. [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes is also organizing a slashers' lunch on Thursday at 2:00. More information HERE.

4. There is a list of slash-oriented Prophecy meet-ups HERE.

One week to go! :-D
emmagrant01: (Prophecy)
A week from tonight, I will be hanging out with folks at Prophecy! ZOMGsoexcited!! :-D

Is anyone organizing a Harry/Draco get-together? I've looked around but can't find anything.

Also, who else is going to the special IMAX screening of OOTP on Thursday night? Can you imagine how awesome it will be to have that whole theater to ourselves? So excited! You can get tickets for that until July 28, btw.

Prophecy acceptances seem to be going out tonight! My panel was accepted, and I've also heard from [livejournal.com profile] mijan and [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes that their panels were accepted. Yay, lots of slash programming!

Edit: I see that [livejournal.com profile] furiosity's panel was accepted too. :-D

In the past, slashers who've attended cons like The Witching Hour and Lumos have complained afterwards that there wasn't much slash-oriented programming at these events. Some have suggested that HPEF* (the organization behind many of these fandom events) is anti-slash and discriminates against slash-oriented panels, while others have insisted that the number of slash panels that are submitted is small, and so what ends up in the program is representative. I'm not going to speculate about the truth. However, I do know that I gave away 400 [livejournal.com profile] slashcast buttons at Lumos (and there were about 1000 attendees), so we must have represented a heck of a lot more than 5% of the fans there.

In case you haven't heard, submissions for Prophecy have been extended until February 15. The deadline to submit a proposal to Sectus is February 28. (Edit: More info about preparing your submission to Sectus is HERE.)

The point of this post is to encourage YOU to submit a slash-oriented roundtable, panel, workshop, or presentation for Prophecy or Sectus. The more people who do it, the better the chance that more slash-centric panels will show up in the programming. Our registration dollars support these cons, so we should make sure that the kind of programming we want to see is (at least) proposed. By sheer numbers alone, we could have quite an impact.

So what follows is my advice for writing a proposal for a fan conference, along with some things I think you should know about submitting to Prophecy in particular. )

This is may sound difficult and intimidating, but PLEASE consider submitting a slash-oriented proposal if you are planning to attend Prophecy or Sectus! The organizers can only create a program out of the submissions they get. If we make up more than a third of the con attendees, then it would be reasonable to expect close to a third of the programming to be slash-friendly. The more proposals we submit, the greater our chances of getting a significant number of them accepted. And that would make the cons more fun for all of us, right?

If you submitted a slash-oriented proposal to Prophecy, could you comment here? I'd be curious to know how many were submitted vs. how many will be accepted.

* I should note that Sectus is not an HPEF event, and that most of the organizers are active slashers. AFAIK, the event is overtly slash-friendly. I don't mean to imply that HPEF events aren't slash-friendly, of course, but there is a not-insignificant chunk of the fandom that thinks that is the case, and I do recognize that may be one reason why slashers tend not to submit proposals as much as others do.

Edit: To be clear, this is NOT intended to be a slam against HPEF. I don't think HPEF is anti-slash at all, but I know there are people who do. I want to encourage those people to submit proposals anyway, regardless of how they feel, because these cons are for all of us. If you don't submit, you really can't complain, right?

Le sigh

I need to shed a single emo tear over the end of Lumos, because seriously? Best. Con. Ever.

I had so, so much fun, and met so many amazing people, all of whose LJ names I have forgotten. Except for [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth, of course. *lulz*

There shall be a bigger post-mortem post later in the week when I get my thoughts together, but for now I just want to say it was fantastic to get to spend a weekend with likeminded people, for whom overheard words like "double-headed dildo" are actually an invitation to join the conversation, who are willing to sit in the common room and discuss women's sexuality in the wizarding world, and who are friendly and welcoming to everyone, no matter who or what they ship.

Happy travels to everyone who went, and I hope to make it to Prophecy and/or Sectus!
