This is a totally random poll of people in fandom. I'm not doing anything with these results -- I'm just curious about people's backgrounds and experiences in fandom. :-)
My slash OTP is H/D, however I'm quite partial to H/G as my canon ship.
I'm married and while I don't identify as bisexual or bi-curious, I'm more pansexual I think. Although I've never been in a relationship with a woman (only physicual stuff). Thus the 'curiosity' has been satisfied ;).
My "other" for the HP question: I don't really have a favorite pairing in HP... I very much enjoy Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape, but adore Harry/Ron/Hermione and Ron/Harry/Draco, and I have a kink for Lily/James.
And I'll just be kicking my Lucius smutbunnies under the rug, shall I?
It's been Obi/Bail for a long time, actually (because of Rita's work) -- despite the fact that outside of QAJ, I've never written it. That's why I love your stuff so much! ;-)
I chose "other" on the favorite pairing question. I really don't have a favorite pairing; I love them all. It would be so boring to me to read just one pairing or even exclusively het or slash. I read and enjoy it all. I've only written a few fics and have managed to work in a het, a slash, and a femmeslash, so I'm a pretty equal opportunity fan. Some characters do stand out, but I'll happily read them paired with just about anyone.
Under fandom activities, I filled in reading and writing fic, but I also beta for two people full-time, and accept the occasional beta for other people as well. In fact, I probably spend more time betaing than I do writing.
This is quite possibly ridiculous, but it's bothering me nonetheless. I didn't reply to the question What is your current relationship status? because none of them apply to me or anyone else in fandom that may be polyamorous. "Married/Dating, multiple serious" would be my answer. ;)
If you are a Star Wars fan, which of the following is your favorite pairing?
I've discovered over the past year that I'm Obi/almost anyone shipper with the main others being Qui-Gon, Siri, Padme, Anakin, Ferus, Xanatos, and Bail. Somedays it depends on my mood and what I'm craving to read that dictates what pairing I will seek out fic for but I no longer have an outright favourite SW pairing.
I don't really have a HP OTP, since I read and like just about any Harry pairing (minus one :D). I read H/D most often though, since of the pairings I like best it's the one with the most fic available.
I've never received a proper flame, I don't think. I had one anon commenter call me sick because of the subject matter of a fic, but I got the impression the story hadn't been read. Besides that, though, the worst I've ever gotten is some variant on "I don't like this pairing, but I liked what you did with it" or "I didn't like the plot/the ending/the (fill in the blank), but you're a really good writer," neither of which I'd consider a flame.
I have weeks where I write lots of fanfic, but at least once a week is probably stretching it. :)
My "other" for the Star Wars pairings: Sidious/Maul, Xanatos/Maul, Xanatos/really pretty much anyone, my Xanatos gets around. I first became familiar with Xanatos due to working in the children's section of a library. I'd seen TPM, I'd found out all about the Qui/Obi slash, and then, lo and behold, a new Jedi Apprentice arrived for me to enter into the library catalogue. The evil, er, red, lightsaber drew my attention, the insolent facial expression and the broken circle design on the fellow's face made me intrigued, I read the book on my lunch break, and went home and searched the net. Given that it was late 1999, not too much Xanatos stuff was around that appealed to me. I am not sure if I came upon Broken Circle right then, but the first Xanatos stuff I found was het. Mary Sue het, to be exact. Upon rewatching TPM (well, "rewatching" is kind of a strong word, I skipped to the Duel of the Fates and wore a hole in the tape), the following idea hit me: if I were Darth Sidious, I would so have scooped Xanatos up, altered him mentally and physically, and after some surgery, tattoos and brain washing sessions, voila - I would have me a Darth Maul. Having become briefly obsessed with this idea, I started writing. I wrote an alternate Qui/Maul fight scene on Tatooine. I wrote an alternate Qui/Maul endfight. I came up with an end for the entire story. I wrote huge sections of Obi-Wan's journal. I wrote a chunk of Xanatos's journal. I wrote a really heavy NC-17 Sidious/Xanatos chapter, with Xanatos on the brink of becoming Maul. I also came up with (and wrote some of) exactly what Xanatos would have had to do to earn his tattoos, his horns, his new 'saber, etc. And then real life kicked in, and I stopped. I've never actually posted this anywhere. I've only ever posted three HP fics, two of which were on a site that has since gone away. At some point I started a HP fic based on Dangerous Liasons (mostly the book, which is an epistolary novel). I wrote about ten letters total, most between Lucius and Snape, and then I moved to another state, was sued by a crazy person, and began fighting with many other RL issues. These days I mostly read, and the only thing I read on a regular basis is STG. Incidentally, I found STG due to a fit of nostalgia, which made me look for Xanatos fic. I found Queer as Jedi, laughed a lot, and hunted down everything else associated with Emma Grant. As far as having been into fanfic for more than 8 years, I guess the first couple probably don't count. Back in high school, around 1995 or so, a close friend and I read a lot of Anne Rice. We wrote really horrid Mary Sue stuff about it, and, my parents having just gotten an awesome dial-up modem, communicated online with people who did likewise. It seems pretty funny and rather pathetic now. So... I think I am going to go back to lurking again.
My OTP is obvious enough from my userinfo page. *snorts*
My sexual orientation? Still don't have a clue, hence I chose bi-curious. *Reads other comments* Pansexual? Yegods, yet another thing to think about. *slumps*
Oh oh, 'Married or otherwise permanently attached to someone'. *giggles* *coughs* Seriously, I thought there were only committed relationship & marriage. What's 'otherwise'?
imma ginnyluna shipper. :333 onfh. my otp. they're too cute together.
...but it's not a very popular pairing. i do like harrydraco, but it's much too common, and fans are belittling the coupling. padfootmoony's also another favorite of mine, but they're not as endearing as ginny an' luna. ;DDD
I just wanted to explain - I said yes to the last and felt it needed a comment. If we're defining flame as pretty damned negative commentary, then yes, on one occasion, I did leave such a thing. If we're defining it as a personal attack based on, say, the slashy content of the fic or other non-fic-related commentary, then absolutely not. The occasion above occurred when I was still very new to the fandom and while I still agree, I would not leave the same comment again. I have a bit of a "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" policy now. Just for myself, I mean. :) I generally leave the concrit for those who glory in leaving it. :)
Oddly enough, HP is the only fandom where I'm fairy mainstream where favorite pairings (H/D, H/S) are concerned. In Star Wars, I ship Obi/Maul. *ducks and runs*
Answered "other" for the Star Wars pairings question because I am really a gen reader/writer when it comes to the prequel era; I'll read the occasional pairing-based fic, but I'm not really that interested in any prequel-era pairing.
