A friend just wrote me to let me know someone is posting a fic on AFF called Left My Heart.

Here's the summary: "In the beginning of the Last Battle, Draco faked his own death to protect Harry. He was to go to the States until Voldemort was dead and his Death Eaters were captured. Two years later, Harry decides to go on vacation, and runs into the one."

Interesting...

Given that your title comes from a rather well-known song, I don't think it's unrealistic to think that someone else would come up with the same title. And the story so far doesn't seem very much like yours at all. After all, a story that borrows from the song "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," is *going* to take place in the US of A.

I don't think there's anything wrong with borrowing someone's idea and doing your own version of it - sounds too much like fanfic. (Although IMO, there is not enough similarity in this gal's story to indicate a direct tie to your story.) What would bother me is if someone directly stole my words, or else quite obviously stole my storyline. Although who was it, Rose, who discovered that she had inadvertently written almost exactly the same story as a gen writer? We read so many stories that percolate through our minds. Unless there is a *very* strong resemblance or direct copying, I wouldn't worry about it. But then, that's me.

I have to say, though, I really liked this line: Crystaline tears made their way down his pale cheeks as he thought about the possibly large amount of time he'd have to be away from Harry.

Why can't you write lines like that, my dear? :P

It would only really bother me if it were a direct copy and paste, which it isn't. The fact that the title is the same irks me a bit, but it's not like I claim to have any copyright on the title. I do think, though, that the title is a bit unique, so it seems likely that the two stories are connected somehow. If I were writing a fic that shared a title with another known fic, I'd probably change the title, just to avoid confusion. But then, that's me.

*rolls eyes*

It's up to you, of course. I'd just point out that there are many stories on the MA archive that have the same title. I also think it's highly unlikely that anyone is going to read her story and think you wrote it. Because you don't come up with lovely lines like the one I referred to above. And your Draco doesn't cry all the time. And, oh, many, many other reasons!
