I still haven't quite figured out what attracts me to a fandom. It's fairly unpredictable. I thought for sure I'd fall head over heels for The Avengers, but... I didn't. I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't come out of it desperate for more or wanting to ship anyone. My Tumblr dash is all Avengers all the time now, and it's a bit sad that I don't feel it too. I can enjoy the gifsets and such, but I don't feel compelled to read any of the recs that are popping up everywhere. I somehow just don't care that much about those characters.

I feel like it's blasphemy to say it, but there it is. The fannish bug just didn't bite me for that one. :-P

Same here! I love all the gifsets and chibi Avenger arts though.

ALSO BRUCE BANNER IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL

I guess I am a little fannish? I don't usually capslock if unfannish. Don't care about fic or shipping though.

I absolutely loved the film, but I'm not desperate to read/see more fannish interpretations. That might be because I already slashed my Ironman with Batman, and I can't see him with Banner or Steve, anymore XDDDD

Ruffalo's take on the character is fantastic. I never managed to warm up to Banner before...

I hear you. I have zero interest in even seeing the film, my hatred for Robert Downey Jr. is just that strong, but I feel kind of nostalgic for my early days in HP fandom seeing all the squee and love for it on my flist.

So far I'm with you. I got nuthin. I really like Tony Stark, mostly because I am a fan of Robert Downey Jr, but I've seen the two Iron Mans and didn't want to ship him with anyone. I do see the angst attraction to Loki, in the new movie. I haven't seen Thor, though, so he could be a total asshat in that, for all I know.

I loved Avengers! I came out of the theatre shipping Thor/Loki really hard, and I'm now trying to catch up with the other Avengers' movies, I love the gifsets and art, and have read some fic (Thor/Loki only), but I wouldn't exactly call it my new fandom. Not by a long shot.

I saw Thor this week, after seeing the Avengers, and I adore Loki in that one. I think that in Thor he's portrayed as more of a trickster than a villain.

I loved the film but am not interested in slashing anyone.

I do have some serious Hiddleston love going on, though.

I think it's easier to get into the fandom if you've already watched all the films and are more invested in the characters but I feel the same way about Avengers as you do... it's shiny, I see the appeal but I'm pretty ambivalent.

I haven't even seen the film... I am that lukewarm about the whole comics fandom scene.

Funny how sometimes we just fall head over heels for a fandom, and sometimes we are basically unmoved, isn't it?

I haven't seen the movie yet, though I probably will at some point. It's been quite a while since I've been in a really active fandom, but just as you say, it's impossible to force fannishness to happen in your brain. It happens or it doesn't.

Funnily enough I went into the movie halfheartedly, just because [livejournal.com profile] noeon and [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth wanted to go see it. I am MEH about superhero movies and hadn't watched any of the previous movies building up to it.

And now I've seen The Avengers 3 times in the theater and twice in a downloaded cam version, I've watched Thor twice, Iron Man twice, Iron Man II and Captain America once each and I'm settling down this afternoon to watch the Hulk movie, which OMGWTF. *scratches head in confusion* I don't like superheroes! I don't like comic books! And yet now I'm reading the comics addictively, LOL, after years of mocking my brother and sister for their comics addiction. *hides face* We won't even mention the myriad sexual positions I've managed to put my Thor, Loki--LOKI!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3--and Iron Man figures in so far. *looks shifty*

I haven't fallen this hard for a fandom since HP, and I totally, totally did not expect it. Fandom's a funny thing, really. Sherlock did nothing for me fannishly, even though so many of my friends fell into it headfirst and even though I loved the first season, and that made me ridiculously sad. And then this crazy, insane comic book fandom that I would never have thought would have caught my interest in the slightest has totally consumed me and made me fall in love with my fannish side all over again. I'd forgotten how much utter joy squee brings with it... :D

I kind of figured it wasn't going to get me, because rather than having my bulletproof pairing kink of "two guys who are equally strong in completely different ways", it's an ensemble thing. But it's fun seeing the squee, and it's at least tangentially related to my primary fandom, so that's nice! It's not like watching everyone go nuts for H50 or something. XD

What I'm finding interesting is how many people are coming out of it with ships that were better developed in previous movies. Like, a lot of people are going nuts for Loki/Thor, and I had figured that they would have already been nuts for Loki/Thor from Thor itself. And strangely, I'm not seeing a ton of Tony/Steve! Most of the people I follow are Clint/Coulson or Clint/Coulson/Natasha, or Thor/Loki, or maybe even Tony/Bruce fans. I was expecting a lot of mashup pairings, like Thor/Steve or Clint/Tony or whatever, but it seems to be more of a "pairing cementer" than a "pairing creator", if that makes sense. At least where I hang out!

(I'm not immune to that myself! I have a thing for Steve using Tony as a substitute for Howard, and Tony being really, really unimpressed by that, and I think there's tons of grist for that in Steve and Tony's interactions. :D )

But yeah. It was great, I loved it, I enjoyed the expansion of the Marvel movieverse... I'm just not really going for the fic or writing anything there myself. Oh, well! XMFC is still nice and busy. :)

Except that some people only decided to watch Thor after Avengers, which is my case but I'm not alone.

I feel the same way. I enjoyed the film for what it was, a superhero flick with a lot of over-the-top costuming, snappy lines, and fun action sequences. But it didn't grab me. I think Sherlock has so utterly consumed me that there's no room for another shiny new fandom.

However, I can thank Avengers for making me aware of Hiddleston, whose appeal I did not get at all before. It helps that he's worked with Cumberbatch, so it's a way of extending the Cumbercrush.

Thor had the possibility to be horribly silly and dripping with pathos... but Branagh at the wheel actually made a damn good film. I was surprised by just how much fun it was.

I'm so in love with Sherlock that I just don't feel left out. I did read a Loki/Thor story but really, I enjoyed the Loki/Benedict/Martin one so much more. So yeah, that's where I am with Avengers. :-D

Yeah, people have gotten to the Avengers (and their favorite pairings therein) in so many different ways! It's been eye-opening for me, since I read the Avengers comics as a kid and have seen every Marvel movie in the theater (except, weirdly, Captain America). Most of my friends were Marvel movieverse fans already, and even some of them are now chomping at the bit for Thor/Loki, even though they saw Thor when it came out and didn't really go for it at the time.

I'm still amazed I'm not seeing more Steve/Tony. I figured that was going to be The Pairing That Ate Fandom! Maybe I'm just hanging out with an alternate crowd. Or maybe ALL of the pairings are turning out to be The Pairing That Ate Fandom this year. *g* I hear the rush to AO3 for Avengers fic made the servers cry a bit. XD

I haven't read the comics and I hadn't seen any of the movies that build up to Avengers before. To be honest, what pulled me in to see Avengers was the awesome trailer, and I liked the movie so much that now I want to watch the other ones.

Oh, so that was what made the servers go a bit wonky? XD

This! Trying to look at the movie objectively, I don't think it would have had me diving for fic/art/etc. if I didn't already know a lot of background on the characters and therefore could theorize on the driving force behind their actions - especially for my OTP, Tony/Steve, which is so huge and blatant in the comics but has only the littlest bit of pre-slash connotations in the movie.

But I think we've talked about how BBC Sherlock was the same for me - loved the episodes, but no fannish inclination! It's so weird, especially when you just expect it to happen based on friends' reactions.

I feel like the Steve/Tony was hard to see in the movie unless you were looking for it - or at least, harder to see than some of the other ships that are coming out of MCU. They have so much history in the comics and so I think if you've got more background on them, you can see where they're headed based on their initial interactions, but without more context? It only vaguely comes across as pre-slashy. I'm really looking forward to seeing how their relationship is interpreted from this point out in MCU, though! Superhusbands FTW :D
