emmagrant01: (ST come see)

Have just seen Star Trek. Hired a babysitter so I could go in the middle of the day by myself and revel in the slashy goodness. Holy shit, people. Holy fuck. I need me some Kirk/Spock fic STAT. Preferably something written in the last couple of weeks. Surely there are a few hundred new comms by now. Recs? Anyone?

OMFG, wasn't it brilliant how they made the film AU from ST:TOS, so that the entire future is wide open? I mean, seriously, is that not the most brilliant thing they could have done? Now there can be all new fics, books, movies, and fics -- did I mention fics? -- none of which have to follow the TOS canon! Or, they could just rewrite it all, given the newly rewritten history! You don't really even have to know much about the TOS-verse in order to read and write it! Mwahaha! The old-timers are either going to love that or hate it, but I am just in awe of the brilliance of that move on the part of the film's writers.

And holy shit, the slashy potential! Sure, they threw that whole Spock/Uhura thing in there to take the edge off, but by the end of the film, Spock and Kirk only had eyes for each other. Old!Spock practically said so much to Young!Spock at the end. He was all, "You neeeeed each other."

Oh, yes. They sure do. And hell, throw Uhura into the mix too. Why not?

And holy shit, that last scene, when Eric Chris Pine's Kirk walked onto the bridge, he had utterly morphed into Shatner's Kirk. It was fantastic. I got chills.

I have been waiting a long time for this film, because I knew it would give me just the kick in the ass I needed to get back into fandom. Consider my ass well and truly kicked! Woot!

WORD!!!!

What I was especially glad about is they didn't pull one of those "oops! it's the end of the episode/season/movie and we must set right was time travel has set askew" moves.

Also, they timed it just right... no messing with the time before Kirk... and yet it renews interest with newbies to what was the deal before the reboot.

I also how the world didn't come to a crashing end when old!Spock and young!Spock met.

And the whole Vulcan civilization being pretty much wiped out, makes for their specialness to be even more special.

I could go on and on some more... but your bit above, that I quoted, prety much nailed it for me.

OH! AND SILENCE IN SPACE!!!! OMFG YES!

Yes, absolutely. And even the mentions of being in an alternate reality weren't over the top, just gentle reminders. It was so, so well done.

I was really glad for that as well. It made sense, since they're going to be living in the same universe for the forseeable future. And hey, it leaves room for old!Spock to steer young!Spock in various directions. Can you imagine having an old version of yourself to go to for advice? There are about a gazillion fics there.

Silence in space, yes!
