Thursday at Prophecy
Aug. 3rd, 2007 12:04 amLast night was a laaaate night, so this morning got a late start too. Picked up my name tag, had breakfast, ran into
mijan, and eventually met up with
fiona_fawkes,
djin7,
daddybear716 and more people I can't remember at the moment.
We hung out in the Common Room, which is awesome, and then headed to the Slashers' lunch. There were well over 50 people there, and we took over a pub! Among many others, I saw
amanuensis1,
nimori,
femmequixotic,
furiosity,
drusillas_rain (we were sitting at the same table and didn't know who each other was for the first half hour, but squeed like mad when we figured it out!),
dramedy,
longleggedgit,
xingou,
acromantular,
bethbethbeth,
titti,
swtjemz,
coffeejunkii, and... gah, it's 1:00 am and I can't remember any more!
After that, there wasn't much time until the opening ceremony and the feast, which was fun because a bunch of us sat at a table with four people who were casual HP fans. At one point, one of them (after listening to our conversation) asked "What's slash?" Ha! I got to be the answerer for that one, and funnily enough, one guy seemed really interested. He automatically started asking more questions, like whether there was any fic in which the RoR was used as a sexual torture chamber! We said, "Oh, hell yeah!"
After dinner we got in line for the Wizard Rock concert, and had enough time to see The Whomping Willows (one of my favorites) and yes, he finished with the Harry/Draco song! The whole crowd sang along, too, which was fantastic. He also got Alex from the Remus Lupins up on stage for one slashy little number. We had to leave shortly into the Remus Lupins's set to head over the the IMAX theatre for the Prophecy-only OOTP screening. That was fun, but our squee got killed quite a bit by an announcement at the beginning that we couldn't shout over the dialogue like we do at the con. So it felt a bit subdued, but it was still great to see it in a theatre full of fans.
Overall, it's been a lot of fun so far, and it hasn't even started for real. Programming starts in the morning, and I have a feeling it'll all go by fast after that. Still, it's really cool to be in a hotel full of people in costume, talking about HP stuff wherever you go. There's something really unique about being surrounded by fans for a few days. :-D
Oh, and I see from a quick scan of my flist that a couple of HP fanartists have been suspended. 6A sure knows how to time these things, don't they? :-/
