I got my CDs of some Lumos sessions in the mail recently, and I've been listening to them in the car during my commute. The sound quality is really good, I have to say, though in many sessions you miss out on about a third of what was said because the voices of people in the audience weren't picked up by the mics. In some cases, the people running the panel did a good job of paraphrasing those comments and repeating questions, but in other cases, you just miss out. I think the CD of the crack panel turned out particularly well, and it was a lot of fun to listen to! I made audience members come up to the mic to ask their questions and make their comments, and I'm really glad I did, because there's very little on the CD that isn't understandable.

Overall, it's so much fun to listen to these, particularly to panels I didn't get to go to. So much fandom love, I gotta say!

And... um... there doesn't seem to be a copyright on these CDs that I can see. I have five of them: the crack panel, the slash vs. het panel, "Bridging the Gap Between Scholars and Fans in a University-level HP Course", "A Critical Look at Wizarding Education", and "Educational Theory and Practice in the HP novels". I'm just sayin'...

Oh, awesome. *peruses catalog* The first two seem interesting.

I didn't know they were doing this. Are titles available for order now, or was it an on-site only thing?

Actually I would love to get my hands on the crack panel CD, but seeing as how I live on a completely different continent all together (hence being unable to attend Lumos) there might be shipping problems. Is there any chance you could upload them so they would be available for download? This way anyone who's interested could access them and you wouldn't need to burn/send them to everyone.

Second the request for download opportunities for the same reason!

(Why, oh why, do I always forget to log in once more before I write a comment?!? Sorry!)

I'm having a transcript made of the legal panel one.

Also, do you not have Where Did We Go? 'Cause I do....

erm, does having a transcript made include sharing said transcript, or allowing said transcript to be purchased? am wanting a copy of that one (i did go to it but can't remember everything), even though laws in australia and nz have next to nothing to do with usa law, but the mentions of british law is good too.

[*facepalm*] am totally babbling, sorry.

anyway, about that transcript...

I'll probably post it to my LJ and on [livejournal.com profile] fandom_lawyers early next month. Once it's typed in, I need to have my co-presenters look over it before we share it, but I hope people will find it interesting.

Maybe there could be a series of Lumos panel podcasts?

Generally, sound recordings are protected with a (p) kind of symbol and the year. However, I see from the US Copyright office that a notice is no longer required for copyright protection (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ56.html). A work might be registered, and at any rate it is protected at the moment of creation, technically.

On the other hand, if the producers didn't get signed releases from everyone appearing on the recording, their position is somewhat weakened.

Oooh, I'd like to listen to pretty much all of these! I just finished the last slashcast this morning, and don't know what I'll listen to on my commute now. Plus, the Lumos episode made me oh-so-jealous.

Crack, slash vs. het, wizarding edu and edu theory and practice, please.

Shall these go up on some podcast? Or uploaded on sendspace? Or copies made and sent to who wants them? Or to be purchased elsewheres? Or...?
