The thing that really amazes about fandom is that there are so many wonderful people out there who are willing to devote tremendous amounts of time to doing things for others that don't necessarily put themselves in the spotlight. One of those is translating fics.

There are several translations of my fics going on right now, and I want to publicly thank the translators and point the links out to anyone who might be interested. Some of these are in progress and I'm not sure what the status of the work is, but I thought I'd list them anyway. :-)

I've always wanted to translate your work though I never managed to bring up the courage to do so, knowing that it will never quite be as good as the original. And, of course, Dutch is a pretty stupid language especially when describing sex.

I might take the plunge one day though, you never know.

*bows for all the writers who were brave enough to do it* I'm sure you all did a wonderful job at it.

I don't know any Dutch, so I'm afraid I can't judge. ;-)

Lol. Yeah, probably. But let me give you an example anyway.

When you say "giving head" in English you can use it for both going down on either a woman and a man, right? Well, in Dutch there is no word whatsoever you can use to describe that, unless you just refer to it as "oral sex" without further ado.

However, there is one word you can use for going down on a woman, then you say "beffen" (I guess it has got more or less the same origin as "to boff" in English, though the meaning is slightly different). When talking about giving head to a male you have to use the verb "pijpen" and if I'd translate it literally to English it would mean so much as "to pipe" or something like that. And yes it sounds just as meanless in Dutch as it does in English

*delayed delurking*

We somehow have the same roots in French, as when you want to say 'to give head (to someone)' in French we say 'faire/tailler une pipe (à quelqu'un)', which literally means to make/carve a pipe (of the smoking type of course) to someone. It's very rude, too. So there, Dutch and French seem to agree on that one! =)
