That IQ test thing (gacked from several people)

I hate these things. I hate the concept of testing for "intelligence" anyway, primarily because intelligence is not well-defined. In particular, most "intelligence tests" are actually testing how much you remember about middle school mathematics, English, and history.

The thing is, you can learn how to take tests like this and do well on them. Does that say anything about an innate ability you have? No, not really. It just means you're a good test-taker. Moreover, many of the questions on this test (as they usually are on these sorts of things) were problematic. I'll just discuss a sample here. ( I'll put my comments behind a cut, so as not to spoil anyone who still wants to take the quiz. )

One more thing, and then I'm going to get a lot of work done. Seriously.

Several of us have been simultaneously rejoicing and quibbling about the recent explosion of Star Wars-related slash comms on LJ. But it's actually getting a little hard to keep track of everything.

So you know what we need? We need a fandom newsletter community, like HP's daily_snitch. We need a comm where a few volunteers will check all those communities, point us to new fic and art, alert us to news and challenges, and so on.

ETA: Apparently there are indeed comms out there that do this sort of thing. Yay!

jedi_news looks like it provides exactly the service I was looking for. And starnet too. Cool! *hugs flist*
