emmagrant01: (gay marriage)

From a political action list I'm on:

For the first time in U.S. history, both houses of a state legislature passed a bill allowing civil marriage for same sex couples. Now California could set the standard in the battle for equal rights for all Americans. But Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to single-handedly halt the expansion of basic civil rights to everyone in California.

Signing the Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Protection Act into law would move California forward on the right side of history by affording the same rights to all Californians, regardless of sexual orientation. And it would set an example for the entire nation! But Governor Schwarzenegger has said that he will veto the Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Protection Act passed by both houses of the California State Legislature.

Don't let Schwarzenegger veto the bill! Click the link below to tell Schwarzenegger to sign the Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Protection Act.

Today Massachusetts (how the hell do you spell that anyway?) voted against de-legalizing gay marriage in their legislature. It became legal there last year, I think, and this was the first big attempt to reverse that policy. The fact that it failed makes me want to thumb my nose and go neener neener neener to folks who are so afraid of catching the gay if "those people" are given the same protections and legal standings as everyone else.
