Kent, indeed. I don't know how long it's been since you lived here, but it kind blows now.

Portage overall is going for Kerry. They're going mostly Democratic everything, really.

Not surprised. The Portage Democratic headquarters was out of downtown Kent. That place was always bustling.

*L* It's been about 4 years since I've lived there but I visit often so I know of the suckage.

How about issue #1 down there?

Sadly, passed in Portage 57% to 42%.

Ohio is a horrible place to live if you're gay. *gnaw gnaw*

It looks like all of America is a bad place to live if you are gay-it passed everywhere. *sighs sadly*

I just want to pass along my condolences on that.
In happier news, Nova Scotia is the 6th province/territory to make gay marriages legal.
It's kind of funny reading the coverage up here, since the president of the United States affects us a bit more than the rest of the world, or so we like to pretend. It's been said that it would be harder for Canada and the World to say 'no' to Kerry than it is to Bush. I think because so many of us are pulling for Kerry.
Oh, well. We shall see.

Canada will take you in! We accept everyone, apparently.
Everytime I bitch about living in Canada, I get reminded that it could be worse.

It boggles my mind that the US doesn't.
America is weird. That is what I have decided.

in the last election my stepmom checked out moving to canada. seriously. she said the same thing "they'll be glad to have us!" I'm working on learning the words to the national anthem now :)

Sorry, I'm not laughing at you, really. The national anthem thing reminded me that I don't know all the words in one language. Half-way through I have to change to french, because I can't remember the english.

Canada loves EVERYONE!

Are we so bad that people think we shouldn't get married and have the same benefits as a het married couple? *shakes head in disbelief* Still, I'm glad I'm in California. The ballot measures here are for the three-strikes law and stem cell research funding. I think this state was smart enough not to put the banning of same sex-marriage on the ballot -not if San Francisco can have any kind of say in it.

I seriously don't get it. Honestly, back when I was naive about this stuff, I thought it was already legal.
I was informed otherwise.

I'm thinking a lot about this now because I'm in a kind of relationship that makes me think I might want to get married. We already live together. To a het couple, the next logical step would be marriage. To us gays, nothing. Oh you can exchange rings, get 'married' but it's not recognized by whatever state you live in. So if I spend a good 40 years with my partner and we share everything, if anything happens to either one of us, the other gets nothing. Maybe a pat on the hand and a lovely condolence card. *scoffs*

Again with the not understanding why it's not legal, and why there were those proposal-thingies to make them illegal. *shrugs*
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm part of a minority, maybe it's because I don't really have a sexual preference, but for goodness' sake, people are people, regardless of race, religion and preference.
Heaven forbid that everyone has the same rights./sarcasm

Are we so bad that people think we shouldn't get married and have the same benefits as a het married couple?-I think this is bad. It's a form of discrimination between what people choose. If you choose to live your life with someone it shouldn't matter what gender you are.

*snorts* at least your ballots contained worthwhile issues. Ours was pathetic here. Only the gay marriage amendment and road tax levys.

I wish we got to vote on things like that. Our ballots are exceedingly simple. You go in. You vote for the party you want to win. You submit your ballot. A two year old could vote in Canada.

Trust me, I know discrimination. We can't even go out and be 'affectionate' because people look at you differently. To top it all of, I'm (to say it PC) Asian-American. Double the looks that I get. I'm just really glad Los Angeles is a 'melting pot' that I'm as 'different' as the next guy. Drove through New Mexico once and people looked (stared, more like) at me like I was the first Asian they saw... It's out there. All over actually. *Sad*

It's unbelievably weird, I agree (I'm a mix). I grew up in a predominantly 'white' neighbourhood. Things are much more mixed now, but growing up it was...a unique experience.

Forgot to mention that in New Mexico, we ate at a restaurant and the server spoke to us v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y like we were 3 years old. Unbelievable!

*nods* Yes I hear that it is worse in the South than it is here up North. I can only hope one day that we, as a country can progress. I doubt it will ever happen unfortunately though, which is incredibly sad.
