Positivity meme, day 5

A bit late on this one, but it's cool because I actually have so much positive stuff today that it was hard to narrow it down to 3! So here, have five seven. :-)
1. I just dropped my 6yo son off for his first day of a Star Wars-themed drama class. They'll be working on a stage version (!) of "Return of the Jedi" this fall. He loves Star Wars in that cute way little boys do, and he's so excited. I am so jealous I can barely stand it. I want to do it!! Why don't they have these things for adults?? I mean, I guess I could join a LLARP group, but still. I will have to live vicariously through him these next few months.
2. DH had his first colonoscopy this morning. Those are unpleasant enough, but his dad is a survivor of stage 4 colon cancer, so naturally DH was really terrified that they'd find something. The results were 100% fine, though, and we were all very relieved!
3. My "Let's make room for moderate opinions" post on Tumblr yesterday was really well-received, to my great surprise. Of course, I have no idea if it will go anywhere. I would love to work up the nerve to post something about TJLC, but I'm still not sure how it would go.
4. I posted another chapter of "The Hollow Now" yesterday, and it was also very well-received. I'm pleased with how it turned out, and so, so grateful for the amazing beta work that
drinkingcocoa does. I've always made an effort to power through WIPs and post chapters once a week, but this time I'm not doing that. I'm taking my time and posting when a chapter is ready. And damn if I'm not enjoying that! It's so much less stressful this way.
5. I got edits made on my original short story for the New Smut Project Anthology and turned that in. I'm pleased with how that story turned out. I may occasionally try to write short things to submit for publication, just for the hell of it. :-)
6. Slowly working on getting DH to agree to adopt a kitten to be a playmate for our new kitty Plum. She's driving our elderly cat crazy, and many people have told me that was the solution that finally worked for them in this situation. Our local shelter has SO MANY little black kittens right now, and I can't help wondering if any of them are Plum's babies!
7. I am sitting in a Starbucks with a green tea frappuccino while BG is in his drama class, so bonus time to write! I'm currently working on a draft of something special for a friend's recent birthday, so hopefully I can make some progress on that this afternoon.
Thanks for reading and commenting on these posts! It's been a lot of fun. :-)

Date: 2014-09-12 02:25 pm (UTC)I'm SO looking forward to the beta RT when you get to talk about all the ways you approach betaing a text and all the different things you're thinking about. That's going to be really fascinating!

Date: 2014-09-11 09:41 pm (UTC)Regarding cats of three. I have had the opposite experience. We introduced a stray into an established two-cat household and had cat fights for years until they all sorted it out. What happened in our case was that we had a smart cat and a dumb cat, who were female, and the stray was a male. The male and the smart cat tried to exert their dominance over the household by making the dumb cat their personal punching bag(because there was NO way the smart cat was going to give up an inch of territory). Dumb cat's life was miserable until the smart cat claimed the inside of the house, and the male claimed the backyard and back porch, but this took a good three years. We will never get three cats again as a result of that nightmare. Maybe if you got a third female it might work. Also, if you do get a male kitten, you need to neuter him as SOON AS POSSIBLE because otherwise he will start spraying everywhere to make his territory.

Date: 2014-09-12 03:06 pm (UTC)If we do this (and it's a very big if, since DH is still opposed), it would definitely be a kitten. All adopted pets in my area are pre-spayed/neutered, so that's kind of a given.
I'm not sure we're heading that direction, though. DH is not much of a pet person, and I would have a farmload of animals given the opportunity. This is one of those battleground issues in our marriage. :-P

Date: 2014-09-11 10:31 pm (UTC)Also, I was wondering who do you give the nick of your new tumblr to? I miss your posts on my dash. :)

Date: 2014-09-12 09:11 pm (UTC)Yes, I will message it to you. It's not really a big deal; it's more of a blog I'll turn to when my regular Tumblr gets wanky or stressful. I will probably just be reblogging from it, so there won't be much there to look at, other than the usual pretty pictures.

Date: 2014-09-12 12:31 am (UTC)(And why is it every time I see the acronym LLARP I automatically think "Live Long and Prosper"? Which isn't even quite correct, I'm leaving out a letter, but still.)
I feel terrible because I've been reading and enjoying The Hollow Now and haven't left reviews. But it totally makes my day when I see another chapter's been updated. :)

Date: 2014-09-12 09:18 pm (UTC)I may actually be mixing up those two acronyms, now that I think about it. LOL, I am. It's just LARP!
Oh, don't feel bad! I still owe you a proper review of Mise! (Which was amazing and wonderful and consumed me for the two weeks I managed to stretch it out, OMG.)

Date: 2014-09-13 11:41 am (UTC)Oh, now! I'm sure he told you it was "fine". And that he had a good time. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED????
:)
I'm impressed you stretched Mise out to two weeks. I can never stretch anything out to anything. I tried to cook dinner while reading PiaLR at the same time (literally, at the same time) and that didn't go so well.

Date: 2014-09-12 06:42 pm (UTC)Having a kitten could help a lot--our younger cat Sherlock (2, but part Maine Coon, and they take longer to grow up apparently) used to try to play with our cat Veronica (who is 8), and V was not cool with this. When we got our kitten Pip, Sherlock stopped bothering Veronica. Veronica still has to fend off the kitten occasionally, but it's a lot easier for her to assert dominance with a kitten than with a giant part-Maine Coon cat. Plus, Sherlock and Pip looooove each other.
