I am so impressed, I'm blown away. I think he's just fulfilled half his publicity obligations for the upcoming film right there! Honestly, this should be required 101 reading for any PR class. People talk about needing to learn to use social media to promote yourself or your product -- well, this is it. I mean, DAMN. He's GIVING FANFIC PROMPTS.

It's incredibly smart, isn't it? It gets that segment of fandom on his side and even more excited, and they in turn will get the other fangirls riled up and everyone will start creating, which is basically free publicity. PR 101 indeed!

It's Pegg, he was completely the tweeting instigator while filming the last Trek film, too. Chris and Zach (collectively called Pinto :D ) would be going about doing their thing (mostly jogging together every day, and going for coffee and beer together every day, walking Zach's dog together, seriously, they were so inseparable it was over.the.top manlurve) and Pegg was totally milking the fangirls with it. Chris and Zach were all but stalked by the paps last time (and I confess that while it made me cringe, I'm not ashamed to say that all those pics on ontd_startrek made my day every single day) and completelyplayed it to their advantage. The thing with the Trek cast writing their own slashfic is not new, but OH so very good to see again.

I had a baby and had dropped out of fandom for most of 2008, so I mised all that. The 2009 movie was what sucked me back into fandom, big time!

Of course, this just makes me think the poor guy feels left out, because Kirk/Scotty has to be one of the least-written pairings in fandom, naww. Which is too bad! SO ADORABLE.

I have a secret love for Scotty/Uhura thanks to ST:V, but frankly I could put Scotty with anybody and be happy. :D

And yeah, I think Simon Pegg knows how much fangirls love the slashy undertones in movies. There's a serious Simon Pegg/Nick Frost following (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) -- if you haven't seen those, you really should, Hot Fuzz in particular. I've got a zombie AU going right now, so I'm off to rewatch Shaun of the Dead. :D
