emmagrant01: (Altar Boyz)
[personal profile] emmagrant01
I recently uploaded my Altar Boyz fic to AO3, and to my great surprise that was not already a listed fandom. So I added it, and now it's there, with just my little one-shot fic. It just cannot be that there isn't any other Altar Boyz fic out there. Granted I haven't looked in a while, but seriously? Wow. That's definitely one of the slashiest musicals ever, along with obvious ones like Spring Awakening and Rent and American Idiot.

In other news, Sherlock has taken over my brain. There will be a big thinky-thoughts post on Sherlock at some point, but not until after I see the last episode. The fandom is freaking about the Bad Things that are going to happen in the last episode, and I'm weirdly not worried about it. Okay, I will admit there was a moment of "Oh, great, I've just found this fandom and one of the characters in the main pairing is probably going to die and then the fandom will implode and I'll have missed it." Just like Torchwood all over again.

But I'm leaning towards the more positive spoiler interpretations that Sherlock is not actually going to die permanently (because seriously, how stupid a move would that be for the producers to make?), so I'm kind of looking forward to the excitement and the ways the fans will work around it.

I'm also keeping my hopes up that this fandom will be able to handle it, you know? Some fandoms survive character death, and some even thrive on it. Hell, the entire Phantom Menace fandom started based on a movie in which one of the main pairing died in the movie, and that didn't stop gajillions of words of fics being written for more than a decade now.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone who's in that fandom and reading this, am I being too optimistic about how people will respond? God, I hope not. :-P

Well, the first series of Sherlock left us with a 'characters in mortal peril' cliffhanger and it produced vast amounts of amazing fic. If they do kill Sherlock (and I'm currently in the 'no' camp on that one) then we have book canon to back us up on it being fake (and two fake deaths in Belgravia as well!) and the fic will be of previously unseen EPIC proportions.

Actually, whether it's a death that happens or not the fic will be epic. It's the only reason I can live with the likely long gap before a third series *g*

God, why is it not sunday yet?

Thank you for this comment! This makes me hopeful. :-D

Ooh, so does anyone think it'll be John, then?

I don't know how spoilery you want to go so I won't go through all the individual hints, but I've seen speculation based on the previews + twitter hints + non-spoilery reviews that Sherlock either kills someone or is set up to look like he has. Victim suggestions seem to be running at 1. Mycroft and 2. John.

I'm going with Sherlock being set up for a death, but I'm not sure about the rest. If it was Mycroft it would work, as otherwise he'd be able to fix things, you'd assume? I don't want Mycroft to really die though, and needless to say I don't want John to die either.

Scenario most likely to make me cry buckets: Sherlock is set up to think he's killed John and kills Moriarty in revenge... only to find out John is alive. Kinda too fanficcy, but I'd read the hell out of it. On screen it would probably kill me though...

Oooh, this is even better. OMG the angst fic that would result... *drools*

I've been generally avoiding spoilers, but at this point it almost doesn't matter. I won't get to watch it live (unless there's a secret I don't know about?) anyway, so I may as well be one step ahead!

I believe there are streaming sites, though being in the UK I don't need to use them. I can drop you a link if I see anyone mention where they watch if you like? It might not be a good time to watch it live though (it'll be 9pm GMT).

Oh the Sherlock fandom will angst like nothing ever angsted before *g* They are bound to give us something juicy, and I can't wait!

Sherlock has taken over so many brains. It's quite amazing what one good British TV-series can cause. :))

Good writing, amazing editing, truly brilliant acting... none of these things occur in this combination on American television. :-(

omg, I would have thought that there would be a lot of Altar Boyz fic out there! (comparative to other tiny/musical fandoms) It's one of the most overtly slashy things I've seen outside of musicals/shows with explicitly (rather than implicitly) gay characters.

I know, right? It's incredibly slashy, and intentionally so, with all the boyband references. It's almost like the writers read popslash, yanno? Alas, I've never read another AB fic.

I've become Sherlock obsessed. Since your previous post I have been mainlining fic, perusing tumblrs and rewatching Baskervilles.

I can't wait until Sunday, the speculation and the preview are giving me butterflies.

I'm not freaking out about it because they've pretty much confirmed a series 3, from what I've heard (fingers crossed), and hey, in the original story, he was supposed to be dead, but then wasn't, so. You know. If they do that, then at least it would be consistent with the original canon. har.

I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want to read that story before I see the episode. Still undecided!

I've never read it, but I know all about it. My brother was the big Sherlock Holmes fan - I enjoy the stories, but didn't LOVE it until this series.

If anyone's freaking out about the last ep of Sherlock, it must be because they're aware of the ACD canon implications of the Falls. Which means they know that none of our main characters really die at that stage. So why are they freaking out, exactly?

Maybe I'm just not bothered because I've been part of multiple fandoms where the characters die and are obviously going to come straight back at the start of the new season (like Buffy, Supernatural, etc) and ships where one character dies and fandom implodes for a few days before shrugging and saying, "We all had our eyes shut during that part, so no one saw it happen, right? Right." (like Harry Potter, and, yes, definitely Star Wars). A little fake death is nothing by comparison, surely.

But then again, it is a truth universally acknowledged that fandom can be hella stupid and unreasonable when it wants to be, so watch that the wank doesn't get on you.

Yes, me too on the "character death can't stop the fandom" front. As [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze recently said on this topic on [livejournal.com profile] slashcast, fixing unpleasant canon is what fandom is for.

Is this a wanky fandom? I can't tell yet.

Sexism aside (the feminists will always find something to hate on, especially if Steven Moffat so much as looked in its general direction), there hasn't been much to wank about yet, so the waters are mostly untested. But it's a fandom that's heavy on the flailing and the SERIOUSLY FULL OF FEELINGS reactions, which probably lends to its fair share of flouncing and wank in the right (read: wrong) circumstances. Unfortunately. *sighs*

I have no information of importance, that's just what I've gleaned while trying to avoid being spoiled. Or something. I have no idea!

LOL, maybe so! I'm terrible about using the time I set aside for grading and planning to hang out on LJ and read/write fic. :-P
