I recently uploaded my Altar Boyz fic to AO3, and to my great surprise that was not already a listed fandom. So I added it, and now it's there, with just my little one-shot fic. It just cannot be that there isn't any other Altar Boyz fic out there. Granted I haven't looked in a while, but seriously? Wow. That's definitely one of the slashiest musicals ever, along with obvious ones like Spring Awakening and Rent and American Idiot.
In other news, Sherlock has taken over my brain. There will be a big thinky-thoughts post on Sherlock at some point, but not until after I see the last episode. The fandom is freaking about the Bad Things that are going to happen in the last episode, and I'm weirdly not worried about it. Okay, I will admit there was a moment of "Oh, great, I've just found this fandom and one of the characters in the main pairing is probably going to die and then the fandom will implode and I'll have missed it." Just like Torchwood all over again.
But I'm leaning towards the more positive spoiler interpretations that Sherlock is not actually going to die permanently (because seriously, how stupid a move would that be for the producers to make?), so I'm kind of looking forward to the excitement and the ways the fans will work around it.
I'm also keeping my hopes up that this fandom will be able to handle it, you know? Some fandoms survive character death, and some even thrive on it. Hell, the entire Phantom Menace fandom started based on a movie in which one of the main pairing died in the movie, and that didn't stop gajillions of words of fics being written for more than a decade now.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone who's in that fandom and reading this, am I being too optimistic about how people will respond? God, I hope not. :-P
ETA: Beware spoilery comments!

Date: 2012-01-11 08:38 pm (UTC)Actually, whether it's a death that happens or not the fic will be epic. It's the only reason I can live with the likely long gap before a third series *g*
God, why is it not sunday yet?

Date: 2012-01-11 09:23 pm (UTC)I'm going with Sherlock being set up for a death, but I'm not sure about the rest. If it was Mycroft it would work, as otherwise he'd be able to fix things, you'd assume? I don't want Mycroft to really die though, and needless to say I don't want John to die either.
Scenario most likely to make me cry buckets: Sherlock is set up to think he's killed John and kills Moriarty in revenge... only to find out John is alive. Kinda too fanficcy, but I'd read the hell out of it. On screen it would probably kill me though...

Date: 2012-01-11 09:27 pm (UTC)I've been generally avoiding spoilers, but at this point it almost doesn't matter. I won't get to watch it live (unless there's a secret I don't know about?) anyway, so I may as well be one step ahead!

Date: 2012-01-12 02:44 am (UTC)Maybe I'm just not bothered because I've been part of multiple fandoms where the characters die and are obviously going to come straight back at the start of the new season (like Buffy, Supernatural, etc) and ships where one character dies and fandom implodes for a few days before shrugging and saying, "We all had our eyes shut during that part, so no one saw it happen, right? Right." (like Harry Potter, and, yes, definitely Star Wars). A little fake death is nothing by comparison, surely.
But then again, it is a truth universally acknowledged that fandom can be hella stupid and unreasonable when it wants to be, so watch that the wank doesn't get on you.
