It's sad that I don't recognize the Frankie button and suspect that it's because I'm much older than you. But, then I applied for Social Security today because I'll be 62 in October. So I'm probably way older than everyone on my flist.
hmmm, I graduated HS in 86, and these wouldn't be out of style in any of my friend's old shoeboxes. I think you're a little younger than me so I'll say 88!
You're right! And yeah, it was a good year, wasn't it? The end of the Cold War, the end of Apartheid -- it felt like the whole world was changing just as I was becoming an adult. It was a crazy feeling.
I'm going to guess 1988 or 1989, because I think you and I are pretty close in age. And definitely close in the types of buttons we had in high school. 8)
The 60's were really in style in the late 80s. My friends and I were obsessed with the 60s. We dressed in vintage clothes, listened to 60s music, and so on. Our parents (who all grew up in the 60s) thought we were nuts!
I remember when "Relax" would play on the radio (uncensored), and my friends and I would giggle hysterically because NO ONE over the age of 30 seemed to know it was about gay sex! Oh, but my local radio station refused to play George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" around the same time. It was so bizarre!
Yeah, the 60s was very retro in the late 80s. My friends and I were very much hippie-wannabes. We listened to 60s music, dressed in vintage clothes, and so on.
omg, now "Relax" is going to be in my head all night. Will that help me write porn? LOL, do kids still wear buttons? They were all over my denim jacket. :P
Hee, thanks for making me feel young. At school, I'm easily 6-7 years older than almost everyone in my section and a couple of the kids call me grandma. I'm almost 30.
But, y'know, the point was driven home for me in a few ways. 1. None of them were alive when the Challenger exploded, which I remember. 2. None of them were alive when Halley's Comet swung past (again, I remember). 3. Most of them were in middle school on 9/11. I was a sophomore in college.

Date: 2011-09-03 01:42 am (UTC)Those buttons seem more 70's than 80's or 90's to me! A couple of them could definitely be 60's. Maybe they were retro in the 80's or 90's?
