When I was a teenager, I was in a community theatre production directed by one of the guys behind the new musical "One For My Baby". It's been his lifelong dream to direct and choreograph a musical on Broadway, and so he's launched a campaign on Kickstarter to raise money to put on a workshop of his new musical for Broadway producers. The more money he raises, the bigger and better the workshop will be, and the better his chance of a producer deciding to make his dream a reality. In particular, the more backers his project has, the better it will look to potential producers.
