Travis County, the county in Texas I live in, is going 66% to 33% for Obama, with a little over 55% of the votes counted (those are all the early votes). At the moment, the state overall is 51% to 48% for McCain (again those are the early votes), which isn't bad considering that it's Texas.

The state will go to McCain in the end, but the greater Austin area is blue, baby, BLUE!!! XD

Edit: DH and I are watching the results come in, and we're laughing, grinning, and generally having a great time. It hasn't felt like this since 1996. Doooodz...

OMG, Ohio! Holy shit! Okay, srsly: this is a hell of a lot more fun than the last time we did this.

Edit at 9:20: Texas called for McCain, which was not a surprise.

Edit at 9:30: Aw, remember this? :-D

Edit at 10:00: CNN calls Virginia for Obama. This is really happening, isn't it?

Holy crap, really!!???

(I used to live in Travis County)

That's awesome. Too bad the whole state doesn't follow. Oh well.

Well, you remember what Austin is like right?

Have you seen the early Florida results for Prop 2 (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#FLI01p1)? And that's even with the fact that it's currently leaning blue. :\

Oooh, those don't look good. :-( Interesting that the young voters are mostly against it, though.

The first results for TX showed Obama. There was only like 2% of the precincts in and I said to hubby, "They must all be from Austin." ;)

I know I was surprised when I saw that, but then I saw that it was only 2% of the state. *L*

But I had hope for a few moments. How depressing it is to be in a primarily red state.

It'll go red. But if it's at least close, I'll be happy. :-)

Oh, never in doubt. But that's such a lovely high percentage. :-)

Harris County (Houston) is showing Obama in the lead as well right now, and while I know it will most likely change, it makes me happy.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Houston went blue? I would pee my pants in the best possible way. :D

Date: 2008-11-05 02:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com
Oh yeah, Harris is 53%-46% for Obama at the moment. Houston would be awesome, absolutely!

Too bad they don't make blue wine just for nights like tonight. I was telling Coffee that being from a metropolitan area and surrounding myself with academics and slashers has insulated me from the rest of my own state. For a few moments there, I had almost forgotten where the ruby slippers came from.

Sorry, had to make the crack as I'm just sick of hearing all the sunflower and oz jokes from national reporters referring to Kansas and then the ShowMe jokes for across the state line.

*snickers* I love how that says "0% of precincts votion". I know it's from the advance voting, but I still found it amusing.

The big blue (urban) dots on the NYTimes county bubble map of Texas are quite impressive! Much better than I'd thought. Hopefully it's indicative of the rest of the country...

I saw an SUV the other day at HEB here, and it had a McCain/Palin sticker. Under that, someone had keyed their car, "DON'T VOTE FUCKER."

Lawlz, Austin.

My roommate and I have been watching the results on the CNN website for the last hour and a half, and you know, the first thing I said when I saw Texas at 51/49 was "Emma's gotta be ecstatic!" Despite the certainty that Texas will end up McCain, it's great to see how low of a margin he's winning by in a number of the traditionally red states.

Date: 2008-11-05 02:55 am (UTC)

Here's the kicker - they haven't even counted Cuyahoga County, Ohio yet. 0% precincts reporting. Cuyahoga County? Home of Cleveland, about 1.5 mil registered voters, and expected to go to Obama by 72%.

MY STATE IS BLUE. HOLY CRAP.

The New York Times, for a brief shining moment in our state's history, was reporting Texas as leaning blue. I took a screen cap to honor the moment.
