emmagrant01: (LJ sucks)
[personal profile] emmagrant01
I have now duplicated the public posts of my LJ on GJ and IJ, where I have the same user name as this one. Feel free to friend as you like.

For the foreseeable future, I'm not leaving LJ. I'm pissed off beyond belief at 6A's horrific approach to customer service, but dammit, we built our community here and we paid for it. We've worked hard to make this a place we could all congregate, and I ain't leaving without a fight.

So even though I'll be crossposting my public entries to all three journals from here on out (flocked stuff will stay here, and I will be backing up weekly from now on), I'm still calling LJ my home.

Okay, and what happened to these journals? They are all bolded out now when I look at my "manage friends" page, just like Ponderosa's and Foo's LJs are. Were these intentional deletions, or are they more casualties?

The mods deleted Smut Wednesday on their own for a while, just to be safe. I don't know what's up with the others.

We may be back online in the future. :)

They're deletions by the journal owners -- all deleted or suspended journals are showing up as bold now. Journals suspended by LJ will give you a "this journal has been suspended" message if you try to visit the page; journals deleted by their owners will show a "this journal has been deleted; if you are the owner, you have 30 days to undelete" or "this journal has been deleted and purged" message.

fic_fairy was not a personal journal, it was something to do with some fest or something from a long time ago. And yeah, mods deleted smut_wednesday. Not sure about the others.

fic_fairy was a rec comm or something, wasn't it?

It was a journal, but it was like, I think people were supposed to log in to it to post stuff anonymously, or something. It never really took off, whatever it was.

fic_fairy was a sort of round-up for fics based on certain pairings. I used to scout for Snupin fic for fic_fairy, but by the time I joined up, I was almost the only person posting there. It's been inactive for ages. The above icon was my "official scout" icon.

If you look at your userinfo in full size mode or whatever the hell it's called, any that are listed where you can see them (instead of in the icon thingy if your flist is >500) are still clickable so you can tell.

But yes, impossible to tell any EASY way. Yes, 6A, good job, that TOTALLY CALMS PANIC. akshdflkahkjlsfd.

Just out of curiosity, how did you do this? And how much of a nuisance was it? I thought I'd seen instructions somewhere, but I can't seem to track them down.

And welcome home!

It was really easy. The software is available for download from [livejournal.com profile] lj_sec, and to transfer to another journaling site, just follow the instructions on the documentation page. Everything transferred fine to GJ, but because I didn't have a paid account when I did the transfer to IJ, none of my polls transferred. But that wasn't a big deal to me.

I am so glad to hear you're staying. I was between countries when all the kerfluffle went down, and a rl friend just told me about it all a couple of days ago. I understand why people are upset, but I still love my lj. I worked hard on it. I love my flist, and I hope it continues to not change all that much. I'm so with you on not leaving without a fight.

I won't delete my fandom LJ, but I opened it on GJ and IJ, too. I'll be on Scribblit if it works...and I don't have much reasons to move my personal LJ (this one), since I don't have slashy things there.

I don't want to leave LJ so easily, and I hope this bullshit will stop and we'll have it our way.

I think too, as you, that fandom community has already done so much over here, built up firm connections and already well known rules, schedules, communities...we feel safe here and on familiar ground. We know everything/everyone we need/want is here. It became routine.
But now...when you log in you don't know will you see all the people you saw the last time you logged in.

Right now, I'm making multiple posts (I don't know what would I do without Semagic!!) just in case.

Oh, I can't even express my disappointment when I saw smut_wednesday had a stirkethough. Is it bolded now? Guh. Such a disappointment. I can only hope they'll move to another site, at least...

I just started a GJ yesterday. I won't leave lj, because as you said, it's home. But I do want a home base over there too, so I can make sure to keep up with people who are moving.

I'm so confused with this whole thing. How can fanfiction be banned? I know that some sights have no-NC-17-rules and other regulations, but why would LJ feel it to be necessary to remove journals that have smutty stories in them?

There are all kinds of literature out there and people have the right to express themselves. I understand if we were hurting someone, but this just fanfiction. It has nothing to do with real life. There are no pictures, no videos, no one abused... and mostly fanfiction isn't about that. Or at least the fanfiction I've read at serpentinelion and other places. I just don't get this.

What is GJ and IJ by the way? I've noticed that people have created new accounts for themselves, but I just don't understand how that will change anything... is GJ somehow separate from LJ?

Gah, I'm so confused over this. I hope it will just go away. Blah!

Going away? Probably not.

LiveJournal code (the stuff that makes the site work) was released as OpenSource... which means anybody can see and/or make use of the original code.

GreatestJournal (GJ), InsaneJournal (IJ), and others are all websites that are separate entities from LiveJournal.com/SixApart... but they all use roughly the same code.

This post (http://shaggirl.livejournal.com/168702.html) gives pros/cons to various LJ alternatives.

You raise a few more questions/issues, but I'll let someone else tackle answering those as the answers aren't easy.
