Reading Party!

hp_centraltx, but I know many folks are avoiding communities this week, so I'm reposting it here.
I had to cancel my trip to Sectus, and one of the things I was most looking forward to there was the reading party. The idea of reading the final HP book in a room with other fans sounded so exciting. Fandom for me is so much about sharing the experience with other fans, and the idea of reading the final HP book all alone was a little depressing.
So I will be hosting a reading party at my house in Austin this weekend!
I'll be picking my book up at midnight at Book People on Sixth Street and then heading home to start reading, and I would be happy to have people over to read, whenever they want to start. You could come at 1:00 am, 8:00 am, 1:00 pm, whatever -- anytime on Saturday. I have lots of space and places for people to sit around and read. There are several bedrooms where you could go take a nap when you need to, and I'll set aside a "spoiler room" for anyone who wants to go and talk about what they've just read.
I'll fire up the home theater system for anyone who wants to take a break and watch a movie, or for those who don't plan on binge reading. (
phaballa is bringing the DVDs of Hex, and I have a ton of other DVDs to choose from.) I have wireless, so you can bring your laptops and keep up with what's going on on LJ, even.
We'll order in food, drink coffee, and just share the experience of reading the last book together.
If you're in the area and are interested in coming anytime on Saturday, comment here and I'll send you more information.

Date: 2007-07-16 05:07 pm (UTC)I think we're gonna go back to Eryn's place, get really drunk, and then open the book to random pages and read tiny segments out loud. XD

Date: 2007-07-16 05:50 pm (UTC)Friday night, the party starts at 10, so we'll probably show up around 9 or 10, maybe earlier. Since how early you get to the party doesn't affect when you get your book I'm not really sure.

Date: 2007-07-16 06:28 pm (UTC)As for me...I'm going to the Barnes and Noble book release party with my friend Kris. I've reserved 2 copies for us. After we get our books we will probably go to a Denny's, order some food and start reading.

Date: 2007-07-16 06:47 pm (UTC)For me, it'll be: going in line to buy a book (I think the sale starts at 22:00 hrs) with my friend (who's buying the book, not me - she's taking me to hold her in case she faints or something :p) and later we go to my place, where I'll be in my room and she'll be reading the book in the kitchen. And when she's finished (she reads fast, that will be over by the morning) she leaves the book on the table for me to read and sneaks out so I don't see her face, because I WOULD KNOW.
Well, that's our plan. :D
I'm sure you'll have a good time! Don't forget to take lots of photos!!
