This was linked to from The Leaky Cauldron, and it's hilarious because the reporter clearly does not know what the fuck she is talking about. She thinks Umbridge is about to stab the Trio in the Forbidden Forest scene (with her wand, perhaps?), and she thinks there is a Harry/Cho/Luna love triangle in the movie. o_0

I mean, come on. Surely someone involved in the production of this segment must have read the books? Apparently not. Haven't these people heard of research? Don't they know how popular these books are, and how stupid it makes them look when they get it so very wrong?

I mean, it's one thing to try to grab a crowd's attention. I was on board with the "LOVE IN THE AIR" bit given the brief attention Harry gave to flirting with Cho during OotP. She made it sound like a main focus, but that's what adverts do.

But... it became increasingly clear that she really had no idea what she was talking about when she mentioned Luna as a love rival. What? Did I miss a huge chunk of OotP? o_o There aren't even hints of that!

I saw that clip right before I ran out the door! The stab comment had me laughing! It always makes me think of this reporter in a Philadelphia paper who did a review of the movie Candyman and he wrote (in great length) about the ex-Miss America Vanessa Williams and how she was a good actress and he was glad to see her making a come back, though he thought appearing in a horror movie was a cliché. It was so not THAT Vanessa Williams! She doesn't even remotely look like the other Vanessa Williams! He claimed to have seen the movie, but I didn't believe him. lol

You know, I've worked in media on and off for the past 15 years, and I'd say the HP books are well known, and even avidly discussed. There is a segment, however, who only regard the them only as lucrative children's books, and then there are those who are just plain stupid.

It really is sad, isn't it? I remember watching the local news one night while a reporter was talking about the topics on the upcoming state high school exit exam. She was reading them off a piece of paper, and one was "the pith-a-gore-ian theorem". It took me a minute to figure out she'd meant the Pythagorean theorem. I was all 0_0.

But seriously, you'd think people would know Harry Potter better than they know middle school math. Maybe...

I'm convinced that many of the people who do these segments base their entire reports on the video clips they're showing and nothing more. I mean, I suppose you could draw those particular conclusions if all you had was that video. But still, it's horribly unprofessional to put out such bad, inaccurate shit and call it journalism.

Well, Harry would be more with 'a' than with 'e' (as in Herry) and Potter is with 'o' not 'a' (as in Patter. At least that's how British English pronunciation sounds to me. *shrugs*

But, I'm not native english speaker, so I'm not the one to judge.:D

American English and British English have different pronunciations in some things. British just sounds right, because Harry Potter is character from British English literature so I'm used to it and on the way they pronounce it.

WTF?! I just don't know how to put into words how ridiculous that woman sounded. Even my 3 year old nephew knows that wands are for magic, not stabbing. When I showed him my Draco Malfoy wand for the first time, he picked it up out of the box and started swishing and flicking. Not once did he try to stab me with it. *facepalm*
The woman in the clip should be livid with the people who wrote the copy. They really made her look like an idiot on national tv.

The name Harry does sound funny in the video because you get the lady saying it several times and then someone saying it with an English accent. You can hear them closest together at about 53 seconds followed by 49 seconds on the countdown clock. The announcer is saying a word that sounds like "hairy" to British speakers. English people say the "a" in "harry" the same as "a" in "hat".

Wait, I withdraw that. It could lead to one of those wankfests where I learn that of 656 commenters, 653 of them pronounce the "a" in "hat" differently from each other but most especially from me, and anyway courgette is the word for zucchini etc etc etc. And we don't want that again, do we?

Anyway, Emma, if you listen to it again, I'm sure you'll hear the difference.

You're working on the assumption the movies strictly follow the books, and we know that's not the case. Given that scenes have been altered in the previous movies, perhaps Umbridge is about to stab Harry with her wand ;) I'm grateful they didn't decide to report a love quadrangle made up of Harry/Hermione/Cho/Luna. Can you imagine the shipper wars that comment would have started?

Yeah...
But one of the things that irritates me the most is this explosion of amateur journalist on TV. On commercial TV (especially on specific one) they are, like, picking up the girls from fashion shows and magazine covers. It's unbelievable!

Some awful voices, can't pronounce simple words correctly, not articulate at all, wrong accents, forget to breathe, they let some weird sounds from their noses and sound like they're going to choke from the tempo of their talking! Also, I've seen lots of reports and interviews that have wrong information, they didn't do research about person and then they go and ask some serious questions that are totally outdated or misplaced and EVERYONE (except her/him) knows what happened and when.

But it doesn't matter, as long as they can wear sponsor clothes from companies that produce miniature sizes and they attract male audience.
Actually I don't care if they are toothpick size as long as they do their job properly (yeah, I know, influence on kids, but that's another topic...) and they know what they are doing.
Even the most talented ones have to go through some course or training. This ones only get tight shirts and few layers of make-up and producers are keeping fingers crossed that people will be so bedazzled by looking at them that they won't notice mistakes.

Ok, it's so transparent that is not worthy discussing Why? and How? because it's obvious.

Oh, this made me imagine a horrible eventuality. What if there are some Harry/Luna hints in the movie? I mean, it wouldn't be the first time the script writer took liberties with the book...Like that awkward handshake thing at the end of the CoS movie between Hermione and Ron...God, wouldn't that be the most terrible thing, a love triangle for the sake of drama...Goddamn you Hollywood! Hopefully, The Insider report writers are just really really dense.

In "American" we tend to see an A as indicating an "ay" or "hat" sound, and an O as an "ah" or "uh" sound. We see the Harry as an "air" sound.
I think the only difference between the British and American "Potter" is a greater emphasis on the "ah" sound in "British English."
