The number of holiday exchange fics that have been posted in the last month is truly staggering. Shit, the number of H/D fics alone is staggering. And how many of them have I read? Very few. I just haven't had time. Much of that was my own fault -- I ended up doing a heck of a lot of writing this month (I think every exchange fic I wrote was turned in late). And I haven't been able to get away from my relatives for any stretch of time to do anything more than that. *sigh*

My goal was to follow [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas, [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays, [livejournal.com profile] harry_holidays, [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus, and [livejournal.com profile] snupin_santa. I am going to do my best to go through and read before the reveals, but I fear it may be impossible. I'll do my best!

Oh, and on a completely different topic: I do understand why some people might not put an email address on their UI page, but when they restrict comments to friends-only on top of that, it basically means that it's completely impossible for people they haven't friended to contact them. And why doesn't that LJusername@livejournal.com email address work anymore? I give up. :-P

There are so many fics *_*

Also, RE the lj email thing: The @livejournal.com address only works if 1) they have a paid account 2) they haven't disabled it. Some people are really picky about that sort of thing o.O;;

I know! I'm glad you extended [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays, because I have a sporting chance of reading most of those!

Ah, that explains the email thing. Oh well!

I also have only read very few, but for a different reason. Not that I have that much free time on my hands either, but my real reason is that I am at that stage where I only want to read fics I am reasonably sure I might like.. so I've only tried reading what certain people recced.. I have also discovered that in some cases while I might like an author's own stuff, I might still dislike what they read :PP

..so I'll just wait for the reveals. I am sure there are some excellent works by unknown to me authors that I am skipping out of cowardliness.. but I hope they will eventually be recced by someone whose taste I trust, and then I'll get to read them.

I know, I am a very bad fangirl :/

I totally understand that. One of the fun things for me is reading the fics without knowing the authors, though. It's always interesting to have a chance to evaluate something without attaching any personal knowledge of the author. I wish the reveals could be put back a bit to give me more time, but alas -- I'm going to have to slog through somehow. ;-)

I really, really want to catch up on the H/D fics that were posted, but I feel... drowned. So much to choose from, and I feel dizzy. I want the recs (like yours) to come out, so that I at least know where to start. Oy.

And I'm totally with you about the email thing. Very frustrating. My thinking is that they just don't know that they're impossible to get ahold of. Now I'm asking myself, am I reachable, for the random person who might want to email me (pfft)? It is a weird system, for sure, though.

Happy new year! :)

There are so many to choose from, and so many of them are long! I'm not exactly sure where to start. :-P

I hear you about the fests. I've seen a few comments expressing sadness that their fics or other fics aren't getting read and I sympathize. Personally, I'm so very, very behind in my fest reading. I realized last night I still had 30 about fest fics still bookmarked to read. Oh well, I'll just have to catch up in January after the reveals. I agree with you, though, I like the anonymity of the fests.

I've been trying to keep up and at this point, I'm hopelessly behind. [livejournal.com profile] harry_holidays just posted thier master list, and there were 3 Snarry stories and a couple of HD stories, I managed to miss and I was following the comm. *sigh* I'll be reading well into January.

Thanks. I actually can't remember. I think it's a book illustration I got from [livejournal.com profile] bookicons but really, I'm not sure.

Thanks, that was enough to go by (though I couldn't link to that lj). It's from Snow White illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. I like that almost as much as the Nancy Ekholm Burkert version. In case you were interested! :)

You really do. I've been doing recs, and I still haven't finished all the story on any com. It's a tough job, and all.

Do you know when the various reveals are scheduled? I'm tempted to read some of the remaining fics in that order.

I hit the ground running at the beginning of the month and did alright for the first week but then fell behind. Now, I've been reading some of the fics that are being posted right now. It's easier than trying to tackle the to-read pile. I feel bad that I haven't read certain stories by virtue of when they were posted.

Ah well. Has anyone kept track of how many fics have actually been posted? I'm reading mainly H/D and Snarry, but it seems like there are hundreds in those pairings alone.

I did a quick count just now:
Harry/Draco - 48 fics (20 [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays, 18 [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas, 10 [livejournal.com profile] harry_holidays)
Harry/Snape - 29 fics (23 [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas, 6 [livejournal.com profile] harry_holidays)
Threesome (Harry/Draco/Snape) or both H/D & H/S - 4 fics (1 [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays, 1 [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas, 2 [livejournal.com profile] harry_holidays)

The numbers could be wrong; I did it really quickly. :)

(Gah, sorry, mistake in the previous comment... I had to delete it. :P)

No wonder I got two notices :P Seriously, you rock, thank you! I'm surprised there's no snarry_xmas or whatnot comm--that's a lot of Snarry!

Hmm, I know. There's [livejournal.com profile] snupin_santa, so it's weird there's no "snarry_santa". Though maybe the Snape/Lupin part of the fandom is larger than the Harry/Snape part... Anyway, there'd probably be too many fic exchanges if every pairing had their own fic exchange fest. :)

I've mostly been reading Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape. I haven't had time for any others... There are just too many. I've tried to keep up with these two pairings I decided to read at first, but I haven't been able to for the past few days. :/ I'll probably read the rest of the pairings and the fics I've missed when the fests close and there's more time. But then people will start posting their normal fic again, so there'll be little time for that again... I can just see it - I'm going to be reading fest fics in February. :P

I know, there's just too many to read them all. I might wait a while for people to post their rec lists of the fest fics, at least for those pairings I don't usually read. :)

Your icon kept me laughing out loud for over a minute... in front of other people. My favorite line may be *Imperio* Get me punch!,though it's difficult to decide between that and Harry's lack of occlumency skills. :) I absolutely <3 it (except for the tiny unneccessary apostrophe on "Yule Ball's").

Happy New Year!
