The Trailer
Nov. 19th, 2006 04:43 pmWent to see Happy Feet today, basically just to see The Trailer. MDH took great delight in telling the ticket-taker and the guy who sold us popcorn that we were basically just there so I could see it. They gave me appropriately odd looks, but I didn't care. ;-)
Everyone and their brother has now seen one of the bootlegs of it, I'm sure, but I still wanted to see it on the big screen for myself. And it was awesome! OMG occlumency! And Sirius! And the DA! And the kiss! And Bellatrix!! I can't wait!! :-D
Happy Feet was a lot better than I expected. I had heard it had an environmental message, and I loved the fact that it was so sneaky about it. The theater was full of families with little kids, and I love the fact that all of those Republican "family values" types are now going to have to deal with children who are concerned about the impact of over-fishing on the poor little penguins. Mwahaha! I like movies where animals are portrayed as being intelligent and as having something to tell us, though -- especially when someone, somewhere (usually a child, but that's how these movies go) listens.
But back to HP. You know, I've seen a couple of posts lately about how the HP fandom is apparently dying. To which I have to say, Bzuh? I look at all the fic and all the HP-related posts on my flist, and I can only wonder what the people who are saying that are looking at. But then, as Qui-Gon said, your focus determines your reality. ;-)

Date: 2006-11-19 11:06 pm (UTC)and this fandom is most definitely not dying....maybe pornish pixies has died down a bit, but it will explode again during christmas. Sadly, we have lives outside of HP, but I still come online everyday just to immerse myself in a much preferable reality.
Qui-Gon is right!

Date: 2006-11-20 01:30 am (UTC)I've said this before. When I say it, I am referring to the fact that instead of WIPs that I follow there are maybe 2. Also, I've read all of the "classic" fics already. I think that my feeling this way is more my own fault than the fandom's. I feel like I've been reading HP fic for 2 years now and if I see an author I don't recognize I rarely read it. I should "know" the good authors by now. I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of good fics this way. The authors that wrote the now-complete WIPs aren't writing chaptered fics anymore (for the most part) or aren't writing as frequently. People are 2 years older and RL has a way of giving you less time.
I check recs quite often but I've already read the ones that jumped out and grabbed me. I wish someone would obliviate me so that I could enjoy all the best fics again for the first time.

That made me grin -- at my age, two years doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference in the relative busy-ness of my life. ;-)

Date: 2006-11-20 03:03 am (UTC)Eragon starts here on the 14th, and we might see it there.
But then again, we get different trailers depending on the movie and time of day (yes, having sat through 3 sessions in a row of POA, we got a different trailer each time)
So I'm guessing I'll see it some time then in the real cinema.
So TGFTI (Thank god for the internet) until then!
And no, the fandom isn't dying. We're just all over at
*snicker*

Date: 2006-11-20 04:41 am (UTC)I think it's funny that I STILL hear an odd comment now and then about how Prince of Tennis (and thus all anime by association) is evil because it's "killing the fandom" or "taking all the good people away". ::rolls eyes::
I smell the need for another round of wank free...

Date: 2006-11-20 06:31 am (UTC)I haven't heard any flack about POT, oddly. From where I stand, it looks like people are really into a bunch of TV shows like House, Heroes, Supernatural, and the like. I've see a bunch of fic posted for those fandoms lately. But people tend to go kind of multi-fandom during the big TV seasons anyway, IME. :-)

Date: 2006-11-20 01:57 pm (UTC)It's true that in my little corner of fandom the fic has been slow. But that's because it's a) the fall, which is always slow, and b) two or three times as many people signed up for SNupin Santa this year as opposed to last year, so everybody is probably working on their fics.
Anyway, whatever. I wanna see the trailer. Can't wait for the good version to be released on the 'net.

Date: 2006-11-20 04:08 pm (UTC)I only got into fandom when the Prisoner of Azkaban movie came out, so I am 'new'. Sirius/Remus was my first pairing and I moved on from there. I admit that I have finding less and less 'new plots', new ways to put our men together in their happy slashhood and when I do find something new (I remember when I read my first dark!Harry and I was amazined) it makes it all new to me again.
But I can see how some of the really old schoolers might be getting bored or be ready to move on.
It isn't dying to me, in fact I think it is peaking for me... But then as you said, focus determines reality.
Watched Trailer Online...And E! Report...And MTV's...
Date: 2006-11-21 04:38 am (UTC)I know I'm supposed to be squeeing over the trailer but what's up with the picture of the scar on that hand? Is that supposed to be Harry's hand? If so, why did they change what the scar says?
It may be a stupid thing to get angry about but I feel like it's one of "the" important lines from the books like, "Constant Vigilance" and "Remember Cedric Diggory". It's those little things we expect to be there because there's no reason to cut or change it. How is "I will not break rules" better than "I must not tell lies"? It's not even shorter!
*sigh*
But, yes occlumency = yea and DA = love! Can't wait do see Dumbledore and Voldemort fight.

Date: 2006-11-27 09:53 pm (UTC)I went and saw Happy Feet after reading in your LJ that the new HP trailer was going to be in front of it... which was the only reason I went to see the movie.
and I was very pleasently surprised by that movie... I found myself singing along, which kinda scared the friend I brought with me... and we were the only adults in the theatre that weren't their with large amounts of kids.
