1. [livejournal.com profile] slashcast episode 11 is up here! Featuring a GLBT news update from [livejournal.com profile] phaballa; a meta discussion on movie vs. book canon with [livejournal.com profile] charlotteschaos, [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze, and [livejournal.com profile] scarah2; a fandom opinion segment by [livejournal.com profile] stepps; and the first part of my interview with [livejournal.com profile] henry_jenkins. w00t!

2. MDH and I spent several nights this last week watching TV news shows, and for the first time in years, it was kind of fun. The Republicans are scrambling, and I'm enjoying watching it. They've become the party of warmongers, pedophiles, and meth-taking homophobic closet case religious nuts. Bush is having to go to areas where the Republicans have strongholds in a last-ditch attempt to hang onto his base. Democrats have a real chance of winning seats in places where they were more likely to have been lynched a year ago. I'm too cynical to be hopeful yet, but I'm kind of looking forward to Tuesday.

3. I am making progress on writing my holiday exchange fics, yay!

4. Made dulce de leche from scratch last night. And poured it over homemade vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm...

My cynical sibling says that by tomorrow there will be another Osama tape released to the American public and that'll be the end to that :(
Small wonder, he does not want to return to Oregon.

I'd like to think that such a move would be viewed by the American public as an act of political desperation. But yeah, I'm still a bit cynical. I won't believe the country is really going to shift until the results are in Tuesday night. :-P

LOL! I actually do have some mate somewhere in the pantry. I even have one of those special wooden cups with the metal straw. (I've spent some time traveling in Chile and Argentina...)

I hope you liked Argentina. And there's a legend here: once a stranger drinks mate, they never really leave :D

It's a gorgeous country, and I'd like to see more of it. We spent some time in Buenos Aires, of course, and also in teh area around Mendoza. I really liked Mendoza -- such a beautiful town. I have these memories of walking down cafe-lined streets and just being completely charmed. That, and paying $100 to fill the gas tank of my tiny rental car!

I wish I could be as optimistic about the election as you are. I keep thinking about the new, papertrail-less, computerized voting machines here in PA and the very real possibility (certainty?) of widespread voter fraud in the last presidential election, and it's making me very, very nervous.

I know. I'm not sure if I'm optimistic or not. Part of me is just expecting everything to go back to normal Wednesday, and that I should enjoy it while it lasts, you know?

I used to be "It's ok if you're a republican, because that's just a different political point of view." Now, I think, well it's ok if you ARE republican, but if you vote for them in the next election then you're an enabler of pedophiles, criminals, war profiteers, murderers, rapists, torturers and hypocrites, and there are no two ways about it.

That pretty much sums it up, yep. Politics matters. It really, really does, and our votes are important. I will look back in twenty years when the general opinion is that Bush was a war criminal, and I will be able to hold my head high and say I voted for the other guy, and I never supported Bush or any of his cronies. I did what I could to protest.

The Jenkins interview was facinating. I am totally going to cite it in the copyright fandom law review article I am writing. It is always cool to cite things besides other boring law review articles.

And dulce de leche with ice cream. *drool* How to I get invited to your place for dessert?
