emmagrant01: (A cutie)
[personal profile] emmagrant01
I got sick of looking at my hair at work today and decided to part it down the middle and braid it into two pigtails. It was cute, IMO. And you know what? Nobody at work said a thing about me having pigtails all of a sudden. I mean, I suppose I often dress quirky and stuff, but really -- would it be too much for them to notice the pigtails?

But at the grocery store on the way home, I got carded when I bought a bottle of wine. :-D

Hee hee. For years all I had to do to get the "for 14 years of age and under" giveaways at baseball stadiums and things was wear pigtails. I think the last time it worked was in 2000, though, when I was like 33.

Um, pardon the ignorance, but what does getting carded mean?

They asked for her id (card) to check to see if she was old enough to buy alcohol.

They ask you for your ID if you look under 30 and want to buy alcohol. (The drinking age here is ridiculously high at 21.) And I'm 35, so I don't get carded so much anymore... ;-)

ahh... thanks for the clarification. I guess I'm used to the term 'getting carded' in relation to kicking a foul or pissing off a referee in football, and getting a yellow card, or red card and sin binned...

Don't worry, when you turn 38, and you get asked for ID because the legal age is 18, it does your self esteem a hella good!

I always wibble between indignant and flattered when I get carded. :D :D :D

Oh that's precious. I've got a restaraunt up here that my mom and I frequent that has a sign proclaiming that they card anyone who appears under forty. My mom flirts with the waiter to get them to card her and I threaten them if they try not to card me. Man, thirty I don't mind coming up on, but forty's pushing it.

I feel your pain. I got carded going to a 15s movie last week, which wouldn't be such a problem if I wasn't 24.

From: [identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com
Oh, it wasn't painful. Not a bit. I don't get carded so much these days, so the implication that I might look under 30 is always greatly appreciated. :-D

I'm sure I'll start to appreciate it soon... Right now it's just annonying. I only ever bring college id around with me (irish passports and driving licence = HUGE!). People here aren't so anal about carding as they are in the US. Most people make to 17 and never get carded again. Handy for most though. I think the baby faces run in the family though. My 28 year old cousin gets carded all the time. He's never terrible impressed by the implication he's 17... or younger.

Pigtails are the best hairdo ever. More people should wear it that way. XD

I know the feeling. I wore braided pigtails a bunch this summer to keep my hair away from my face. I also got carded while wearing them. :D

In my Wal-mart experience, at one point we were instructed to check ID on everyone buying an age restricted item (alcohol, cigarettes, paintball guns, etc.) I learned some things about carding people.

from 18-27 years old it is annoying but accepted
from 28-59 years old it is flattering
from 60-80 years old it is a damned waste of time and they are not afraid to let you know.

The last time I got carded I actually thanked the guy for thinking I was underage, while smiling like a lunatic and batting my eyelashes. Poor dear was horribly embarrassed...

Getting carded would always make me feel good, as if they weren't really sure I was 21. Now that I am 26 years past that I get asked for my AARP card which doesn't make me feel good at all!

I'm just happy because the policy here is to card people who look under 30. And I don't get asked for my ID so much these days, so I suppose I look my age. Except with pigtails, apparently. ;-)

I like to wear my hair in two ponytails all the time. At work, at home, going out...I always have. I had a Punky Brewster obsession as a child!

When I could wear it in two braids, I often did. I occasionally got Pocohontas remarks--it's dark brown (I dye it black these days) and very straight.

Also, my boyfriend and I will be out, and sometimes *I* get carded but not him! I'm 26 and he's 21! But I tend to dress and act young, and he's got a huge beard...

If wearing pigtails would get me carded, I'd wear them everyday. I'm past the age of, "you're kidding me, right? You want my ID?" and well into, "thanks for the compliment". Soon I'll want to start marrying whoever asks. ;)

LOL, I know! Now I'm tempted to wear my hair that way more often.

I know how you feel. I'm 38 and have short hair. I pulled it into tiny pigtails a while back and not one person said anything. Now I do it when my hair frustrates me and I'm feeling ornery.

Last time I got carded was not when I had pigtails, but when I was wearing a neon green wig. I think the bartended just wanted to see my real hair color cause there is NO WAY I look underage.

I don't drink or buy alcohol at all, the funny thing is the only time they carded me, I was buying a non alcoholic beer for my cheese fondue, it made my day!

he he he he.. I turned 27 yesterday and I still using my High School Student ID card to get into the movies for the student rate, but the student ID was from freshman year.... so apparently, I can pass for 15 at the movie theatre, which is odd if I am seeing a rated R movie... but I never get carded for alchol or cigarettes, but my brother who is older by two years gets carded when we go out together.

I cut off all my hair (remember it was down to my waist?) in a very short cut, and added 2 huge sections of blue and some blue high lights in the bangs. I get get a few comments :)

I never comment on people's appearance, hair etc. I have this fear that it's been like that for awhile, and I only just noticed; or worse, that they didn't change anything at all, and I just suddenly think they did.

Also fwiw, many of my male friends (including husband) say that they *never* comment on a woman's appearance unless they're dating her. It's just too risky. Some women get offended, think the guy is checking them out, etc, esp in the workplace.
