emmagrant01: (liberal)

As if you needed yet another reason to hate Fox News, they've been referring to Mark Foley as a Democrat. It's an intentional move to misinform their conservative viewers, as they do so well. (As seen on [livejournal.com profile] fabu's LJ.)

If you haven't seen the documentary Outfoxed, you should add it to your Netflix list. It will make you hate Fox News even more, but will provide you with an interesting behind-the-scenes view of just how malicious that organization is. And hey, check out this review of it:

"rank propaganda ... the distorted work of an ultra-liberal filmmaker"
-Bill O'Reilly, pathological liar

Bill himself is rather skewered in the film (and by his own words, no less), and that alone is a reason to watch it. ;-)

Ed Schultz was talking about that yesterday and about exactly what has to take place for it to happen and it's really sad that my reaction was to shrug and say- doesn't surprise me at all. I don't understand how people can refuse to see it and continue so steadfastly supporting the Republican party.

You know- the Republican party are the moral ones with values, but exactly how bad would we have to be to top them?

*sigh* That last question is one I've been asking myself since the 2004 election. And I don't know the answer.

You know, at the moment, I'm feeling kind of glad they did that, since it's outlandish enough that even my very pro-Republican Fox-news watching mother agreed that it's totally sketchy and indicative that Fox News is not "Fair and Balanced."

Though I'm still slightly worried about people elsewhere in the country who only get their news from there and are too uninformed (see, I'm being nice and not saying stupid!) to realize that Fox News was wrong.

Yeah, that's the thing. Fox is anything but "fair & balanced", but people are so gullible that just because Fox says it, they believe it. It's insane.

Because there's no way a republican can be GAY. Isn't that what this is about? They waited until after he came out and said he was gay. It's not that he's a POSSIBLE maybe sort of pedophile, but that he's GAY.

Just like clergymen can be child abusers but until one comes out and says they're GAY, they're allowed to stay.

-kicks....something-

I was just reading a poll about Fox News where 10,000 some people voted and the majority claimed that they were "just right" aka balanced in their views, and CNN was "too liberal." Ay dios...PEOPLE ARE MESSED UP.

-flails-

The idea that CNN is "liberal" just boggles my mind. :-P

And yeah, the right is just waiting to jump all over the "gay" part and conveniently ignore the "Republican" part.

I'm guessing the only people reading that particular article about Fox News were people that habitually watch it, which would explain the results..I was a bit startled as well.

I'm still trying to figure out what the fuck is so horrible about being a homosexual that people will go to such lengths to wash away the "stench" of it. Last time I checked, it was worse to be a child molester than a gay man. I understand the whole stigma that if you "take it up the ass" that means you're no longer a man. But is that all what being a Republican is? A MAN? An old, white man? Frustration!

Bill O'Reilly went to my school. As in my university where they teach you journalism. I weep. It's SO EMBARRASSING! But they, at least, generally refuse to admit that he went there. And Howard Stern. They turn away his money. But they claim O'Reilly over Stern, which is just SAD.

Eh, Outfoxed was okay. Saw it twice though, lol.

Dude, O'Rielly and Stern? Get out now. While you still can.

Hahaha. It's actually a really good school... we just have the most embarrassing alumni EVER (for journalism - our Film/TV alum are fabulous, as our our acting alum). Fun fact: Howard Stern was a straight A student. Crazy, huh? (and it's not an easy A school)

Wow, those bastards don't miss a trick, do they.

Luckily, something like this can only backfire on them in the end. Blatant misreporting of the facts isn't exactly the smartest thing a news organization can do.

From: [identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com
The sad thing is that this has never stopped them before. They blatantly misreport facts all the time, and then say they're "fair and balanced". And people believe it.

I just don't have any faith that this will change anyone's mind about them. *sigh*

This quote by FAIR pretty much sums up my thoughts:

[A]ssuming it was an honest mistake…how come when the show was re-aired, the lower third was removed entirely–rather than replaced by one with the correct information? If it was important to identify Foley by party when he was thought to be a Democrat, why isn't it just as important to correctly identify him as a Republican? We suppose that's why Dick Cheney insists on always having his hotel room TV sets tuned to Fox News.

After what I saw on Fox News last night, nothing they do surprises me.

They had some psychotic woman saying that the girls that died in the Amish shooting the other day deserved to die.

Because they were sinners.

As is she, but she doesn't feel that she should die.

She and her organization goes around to funerals protesting. I saw rainbow, dig it, rainbow signs spouting FAGS SHOULD DIE and shit like that. This was on Hannity and Combs, and it's the first, and probably last, time that I ever agreed with Sean Hannity. If someone is too psycho for him, you know there's a problem.

I've seen people like that before. Is this the Westboro Baptist Church gang? It's like Fox News pulls 'em on every once in awhile to go "We may be crazy conservative, but lookit these guys! At least we aren't COMPLETELY BATSHIT INSANE yet!"

That would be them, thanks. That's goddam scary, you know? And yeah, I can totally see Fox using that rationale.

VL, sometime you will have to remind me to tell you about my mother and grandfather both being on Hannity and Colmes. It doesn't get much more terrifying or hilarious.

Yeah, those folks have been around for a year or so now, and Fox drags them out every now and then, as if to show they themselves aren't that far to the right.

There's a funny video of one such instance here (http://hotair.com/archives/2006/06/12/video-julie-banderas-goes-nuclear-on-phelps-matriarch/).

Oh. Dear gawd. That is seriously, heinously vile.

Sadly, despite [livejournal.com profile] gmth's point below, the damage will have already been done (i.e., the reassigning of blame to the Democratic Party.) And that is precisely why we know Fox is just a partisan tool.
