Okay, I have this thing about Obi/Siri -- and there are surprisingly few of those kinds of fics out there. So, of course, I've decided to write a few for myself. I had something all mapped out, and was ready to start writing it, when I picked up a copy of JQ 5 -- and there is my story, sans naughty bits and sexual tension -- but the same friggin' story! Am I channeling Jude Watson? Or are there only like 8 plotlines out there?

Sigh...

Well, after extensive searching on the web, I have found very little Obi/Siri stuff. Most of it isn't that great. Of course, there's the wonderful A Family Portrait by FernWithy. (If you haven't read it, oh, please do!) There was a little thread of discussion on a Jedi Council forum about the lack of O/S out there, and I contributed to it, but haven't heard anything yet. I'm thinking that I'm going to put together a little Obi/Siri web page, and try to collect decent fic to post there. When I get a little more organized, I'll send out a note to a few of the lists I'm on to see if anyone else is interested.

I'm thinking of tweaking my story and posting it here as a WIP. I know that most of the people who might possibly read this are slash fans, but is there any interest in reading this? Is there anyone else who'd like to read/write O/S?

If I had a buck for every time someone wrote and published an idea before I had a chance to try to sell it to a publisher... the entire Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind feels like that. While I'm happy to see it in print, the first time through I was cursing at him every seven pages. He even stole my city names!! ARGH!!

I'm actually one book away from having caught up with you in JQ. Have finally read all the JAs and JQ 1-4; just need to read the hardcover JQ and get my hands on JQ 5. :)

Now then...!

I could definitely go for O/S fic, especially yours. I'm crazy about "Mind Trick," as I'm sure I've said before. ;) If the bunnies let me have a day off, I'll even give writing O/S fic a shot myself. :>

There were enough differences between my story and JQ 5 that it wouldn't have been an exact copy, but it sure wouldn't have looked original...

Maybe I'll go ahead and write the opening scene that's been buzzing around in my head, and post it. Maybe you'd be interested in writing something to go along with it? *grin*

Like we don't do enough of this already, but we make a great team!

That we do! I keep wondering when you're going to dive into the world of Snippets... ;)

Thanks for recommending A Family Portrait-I really enjoyed it! I'd like to read more O/S fic. I read all kinds of Star Wars fanfic!

Siri/Obi has been growing on me because of the JQ books. I didn't like her as a padawan but the adult Siri agrees with me and she is a good match for Obi. I would certainly love to see an archive or mailing list centered on them.

I think that from her very first appearance, I starting waiting for the two of them to get together. They just got on each other's nerves in so many ways -- it was almost a cliche, you know? When Tahl and Qui did that platonic thing right before she died (sorry if that's a spoiler for anyone!), I really got my hopes up. When JW brought her back in JQ, I nearly flipped out. Of course, I have to keep reminding myself that love is not likely in Jude's Obi's future. After all, he has to be a contrast to both Qui-Gon and Anakin. But, in my little universe, well *evil grin*

I would certainly love to see an archive or mailing list centered on them.

I'm glad to hear that! I'm going to put an O/S page on the QAJ page -- as soon as I can figure out how to get in that account...

*grins sheepishly at Helens*

It occurs to me that Siri has the same thing going for her as Bruck does. I was talking with a friend recently about why she likes Bruck, and she said it was because he is the only Jedi who is not impressed with Obi the Boy Wonder. There's a lot of competition and tension between them that gives the pairing an interesting dynamic. Siri is kind of the same way. It's easy to forget that originally she was in the Bruck camp. Then, of course, she spent all that time undercover with the pirates. It makes her a very unorthodox Jedi, indeed! Lots o' fun!

In fact, I have rather a hard time seeing her as Ferus' master. Ferus seems more like an Obi-Wan type of padawan, and Anakin more like a Siri padawan.

I agree with everything you have said here. In light of recent discussions on the MA list, I'm thinking that it might be interesting here to reverse the typical gender roles. I see Siri as a strong personality, very dominant, and someone who doesn't take shit from anybody. I can see Obi bowing down to that, and being kind of bewildered by her. I think that she's a female version of a young impulsive Qui-Gon, and so of course, that appeals to my Obi!muse...

I liked FernWithy's take on Siri's "straying" from the Jedi path during her undercover work. She's probably got a lot to teach Obi about life outside the Order. *grin*

I agree with that completely! I've already started to exploit that idea, in fact. Thanks for your comments, Rita!
