Well, if it had been consistent, that would have been fine. Add in Qui-Gon and exchange Ewan for Sir Alec, or something.
But the philosopy was always that you don't become a Force ghost unless you learn how to transcend (in some way that has yet to be fleshed out in canon, apparently contained in the Journal of the Whills), and that this was something Qui, Yoda, and Obi were some of the first Jedi in thousands of years learned to do. The implication at the end of ROTJ was that Anakin finally found himself as a Jedi again, and so that was the moment he transcended. Having him appear as young makes no sense in Star Wars canon.
Not that the movies necessarily respect SW canon, but still. :-P
Personally, I'm miffed that they're $30 for each 2 disc movie set? So it will cost $90 to get the whole trilogy? When the article admits that they didn't update it or state of the art or anything? And d00d, we already all have the special editions, so why do you need to include them?
-Clearly- I have not actually -watched- my "revised" DVDs, otherwise I'd be strongly supporting the original release camp. I think a screening is in order. They spliced Hayden in? *shudders in horror*
I am glad that georgie is releasing the original versions though. For all that they're dated, the memories of the original films makes watching the 'revised' stuff just sheer torture.
What I want: Original SW with no changes, revised Empire (I want the Emperor to be the Emperor, and I love the revised Cloud City), semi-revised RotJ (I like the version that has the Coruscant scenes, the new song, but NO FREAKING HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN at the end).
Given time I bet they'll put out the semi-revised versions! I can't wait to get my hands on the originals, though, in the meantime!
He said for years he would never release them, and fans have been begging & pleading since the special editions came out on DVD for the old ones to be released too. If you read the article, you'll see it's a very limited release, so it looks like they're doing it pretty grudgingly. But the fans really, really wanted it, so yay for us!
Well, this is something fans having been begging and pleading for for YEARS, and they always said they would never do it. I'm thrilled they're releasing the originals, even if it's just for a few months. :-)
I was so happy to see this today. We saved our original vhs tapes because of the changes. Now we can actually replace them with better quality dvds because Han is a bad ass. :)
I am ecstatic to hear this. After seeing what had been done to ANH and TESB, I couldn't even bring myself to watch ROTJ. My 10-year-old tapes can finally look forward to retirement. Maybe I'll even buy them a condo in sunny Fort Lauderdale.
i so loved the originals.. i can remeber going to watch the first two in a double feature, with my best friend at the time, after much begging with mum cause it was going to be a really late night...teheh
"In Jedi, Sebastian Shaw returns as Anakin in the movie's final scene. Lucas substituted Hayden Christiansen, who plays Anakin in the more recent films, for the 2004 DVD."
THAT is reason enough for me to buy them. I'm not a diehard fan, but I do have fond memories of watching these movies growing up and would like to own them for that future rainy Saturday when I follow up alittle Malcolm Reynolds with some Hans Solo. And the Hayden replacement KILLED me. Bad Lucas, bad!
Yes, George Lucas will have me buying a set of the original films for the 4th time. (Original cut on VHS, special edition on VHS, special edition on DVD, and the new one). The man is pure genius to keep demand up on products released 1977-1983.
Hooray for us! I totally voted with my wallet and refused to buy the revised set. Not that he would have noticed the loss of my money, but I still felt good about it. :)

But let's hope it's a worldwide release, and not just the USA. I hate buying other regions dvds.
