Date: 2006-04-07 12:51 am (UTC)great interview.
i believe i've told you that beren's story Corruption was the first fanfic i ever read, with a Charlotte Chaos being next (the one where Snape has been inappropriate with Draco), and then LEFT MY HEART being the third... not including the sequel, Transfigurations was my next one... and I agree with you, it's one of the few stories that I tend to go back and read, even now...
it was nice getting a glimpse at one of my fave fanfic authors!
:)

i know you said you got it looked at and fixed, but most places that do that simply reboots in safe mood, does a viral sweep, spyware sweep, and then registry cleaning... and then charges you upwards of $50 to do it... but bothRAM replacement and clean installs are more drastic measures that most places won't even ask if they can do it because most people will say no...

Date: 2006-04-07 01:05 am (UTC)My only criticism of the SW fandom is that it seems to have a high propensity for OTPism. People tend to read or write one pairing and aren’t really interested in venturing outside of their zone of comfort, often to the point of making disparaging comments about other pairings and the people who read and write them. This is something I haven’t found to be true in HP, perhaps because the fandom is so much bigger.
I think you're probably right about that. Back when I first came to the hp fandom, like 5 and a half years ago, there was a lot more OTPism. There were these huge ship wars where all of the R/Hr, H/Hr, and H/G people would insult each other. It got pretty vicious. That seems to have gone away a bit as hp fandom has gotten bigger.
Being a fan is something I’ve always felt compelled to hide, because it’s still regarded as a rather geeky thing by most people out there. And let’s face it -- I’m an adult who writes gay-themed erotica about characters from a children’s book. It would take quite a lot of explaining before most people wouldn’t find that a bit disturbing!
That's exactly how I feel. Almost no one in my RL knows I read fanfiction. It just seems so dorky and weird. I just don't think most people would get it.

Date: 2006-04-07 03:24 am (UTC)But here's what I'm shocked to learn: I haven't heard of this story "Whither Kigali"?!?!? How in the world can you have written a story that I didn't know about?
no subject
Date: 2006-04-07 03:27 am (UTC)Whither Kigali is here (http://community.livejournal.com/toilntrouble/11752.html). It's extremely short, barely more than a drabble, so I was really surprised that they mentioned it!

Cheers, kisses and hugs!

Date: 2006-04-07 08:18 am (UTC)I was also thrilled to hear you are a Transfigurations fan. I love that fic. It was the first long H/D I read and made me realize what can be done with that pairing. I think most H/D fans forever have a special place in their hearts for the first H/D epic they read.

Date: 2006-04-07 11:42 am (UTC)Also, wow, I would so love a copy of that book! I've thought for a while now that it would be so amazing if there was a big book of all the classic H/D fanfic stories including LMH and STG, complete with illustrations. =)

Date: 2006-04-07 05:58 pm (UTC)And I loved what you had to say about top vs. bottom. Too often we associate the details of that sexual act with the concepts of "sub vs. dom," and they're not synonymous. Most relationships don't HAVE sub vs. dom. Except in my storyverse.
