I'm afraid it is real. Oh man, that kid is probably grown up now. That's a great embarrass-him/her-at their-wedding-reception picture!

Gmail manager rocks my world!

I can sort of understand why someone might do that to their own hair - I mean, plenty of people thought they looked fantastic! - but why, WHY would anyone inflict such torture upon a child?? It's right up there with putting lipstick on your five-year-old. *cringes*

Isn't it bizarre? But at the time, it was the fashion. :-P

1. I want there to be some weird way that Snape keeps coming back to life, so he can die several gruesome, violent deaths at the hands of both Harry and Hermione, who both deserve their vengeance.

And he's evil. The only question is where his loyalties will ultimately lie. I mean, even the weirdoes who love their snapie-kins still have to admit that he's a complete jerk, and abusive to children.

And yes, my hatred of Snape (it's nothing short of hatred) makes me extremely unpopular in some circles.

Ooh, Snape-hate! I have ambivalent feelings towards Snape as a character. He and Draco both are presented so two-dimensionally in canon up until book 6 (IMHO), and it wasn't until after HBP that I started to see what so many fans saw in Snape. I'm not a bit interested in Snarry (I like Snape/Lupin, actually), but I think the relationship between Snape and Harry is very important to the series.

But eek, it's hard to read the scenes where he is mean and nasty to Harry and friends in the books. They've toned him down so much for the films.

Oddly enough, I felt the same way about Draco until I started reading a lot of Harry/Draco fic. Heh.

the mere fact that you don't think I'm crazy is some comfort. =-) Seriously - I get attacked for not liking snape. But I had a teacher/coach who abused me in that condescending, in front of your peers kind of way. I was about 14. I've hated that guy ever since, and when I read those scenes of Snape abusing Harry and Hermione, I react extremely.

I'm at the point where I can see that JKR might make Snape ultimately loyal to the oder, and he's certainly setting himself up to undo LV if he's so inclined... but I don't care. If he's "good" then I hope Harry doesn't realize it when he casts the spell to send Snape into eternal torment and pain. I want that snivvily bastard to suffer. And maybe alopogize and beg for his life, but I don't want to be too greedy. A bloody death by Hermione's hands would be quite satisfying. Perhaps some charm that would give her the spirit of the Bacchants and let her just tear him limb from limb.

Yes. My name's Matt, and I'm an extremest when it comes to Sniviles Snape.

heheh -"loyal to the oder!" I meant Order, obviously.

Have you considered counselling?

Just kidding! :-P But seriously, that Snape-hate you've got going seems like it could really interfere with your enjoyment of fandom. Well, maybe there are a bunch of fics out there in which Snape is drawn and quartered, then roasted and eaten by Gryffindors with ketchup and beer?

I do avoid any fics that involve Snape with children to be sure. I can't even read that, but I understand that there's a large fanbase for that type of fic, and I think it's harmless fun for those who want it. But it's not for me.

Now cannabalistic Gryffindor fic could develop a following, dontcha think? Though I think butterbeer might be more on tap.

Snape reminds me of the kids who were picked on when they were in school, but then become notorious bullies as adults. Preying on those they have authority over. There is definitely more to him than we know of, but that doesn't mean I have to like him.

As for Draco, I cannot deal with those who see him as Mini-Luscious, which to me is a really trite take on the storyline. He may be a spoiled brat and a snob, but that doesn't make him a racist megomaniac bent on destroying a part of humanity he sees as inferior. In the chaper The Lightening Struck Tower I think that JKR makes it clear that Draco is not his father.

The 80's hair is just so wrong...

That's a good point about Draco. I know I'm a total Draco redeemer, but I'd like to think JKR is as well. Kids of bad people aren't necessarily bad people themselves, after all. Once they get out on their own a bit, they often change their minds.

And yes, so very wrong! :-P

Not all of us looked *that* bad... some of us took photos of Nick Rhodes to the hairdresser before our year 12 Formal, asking the girls to give us such beautiful hair... It worked for me...

I was more the 'Phil Oakey' Human League teen in the 80's with the asymetrical haircut and the 5 inch fringe out front on one side and practically shaved on the other... But to tell all the tales of my 80's hair woes will require a very long post!

The scary thing is that that woman in the pic looks just like my sister-in-law. I run screaming every time I see it!

LOL! I just wanted my make-up to look as good as Nick Rhodes's did. *sigh*

I went to high school with girls who wore their hair about like that, I have to admit. :-P

Oh, that Gmail manager extension is fantastic! I used to keep myself logged in as FannishMe in IE and NotFannishMe in Firefox. NotFannishMe gets about one email every two weeks, so this wasn't the world's most efficient setup. This is SO much better. Thank you!

I've received that pic in my email before. It was entitled, "Child Abuse in the 80s."

Very apt. :)
