This is a great article about Brokeback Mountain and why conservatives should see it.

A quote: Socio-cons probably have sidestepped this so-called gay cowboy movie. Too bad. While it hardly screams, "family values," "Brokeback" engages profound issues that merit consideration by those who think seriously about the challenges that families face. [...] "Brokeback Mountain" should prompt social conservatives to ponder whether it is good family policy to encourage gay men to live lives that are traditional yet untrue. Would honest gay marriages be less destructive than deceitful straight ones? I think so. Many disagree. Even if they oppose it, however, seeing this film may give heterosexual marriage proponents a better insight into why so many Americans advocate homosexual marriage.

The problem with the Christian fundamentalists that I know personally, is that the see no shades of gray with their eyes. They can only conceive of perfectly "moral" behavior in a heterosexual marriage, nothing else enters into their thinking. Real understanding of human behavior has no place in their world. I think that's why you see such spectacular immorality sometimes displayed by public Christian figures when they are caught out. If you're going to go to Hell for a little sin, you might as well go all the way.

introduce them to Eddie Izzard: straight man (very straight) who sometimes likes to dress in women's clothing. *grin* Let them get their heads around that one. Might only take them a decade.

Because that's where the sexuality lies. Running, jumping, climbing trees, putting on make up while you're up there.

But then you find squirells covered in make-up. Now, that would be odd. I love your icons, btw.

Oh, good article. Unfortunately (for me) the people in my life who are avoiding BBM are doing so because "those men are ubnormal and unnatural" :/

this issue exactly is why I want to force my entire school (well, 99% of it) to watch BBM. Because, you'd think that at a college/"university" people would actually think for themselves? (We do have papers assigned that seem to require individual thought from time to time, after all.)
