My holiday ficlets have been a lot of fun to write so far, but... it's starting to get a little out of hand. They are getting longer and more complicated with every one I write! I'm not sure if this is because I'm getting to the more difficult prompts or because I suck at writing drabbles.

I just can't write things that are short, really. I've tried, but stories tend to pop into my head fully formed, and they're almost always complicated. The hard part is figuring out how to write them down so that they will make sense, and that usually takes a bit more space than I anticipated. This isn't a bad thing, usually -- but I'm writing a fic a day. When I started, they were going to be around 500 words long. The last few I've written have been over 1000, and and the one I'm working on now will probably be 2000 words long.

I'm really enjoying writing these, but I can't help but worry that some people might feel slighted that they didn't get as long a fic as someone else. It has very little to do with the person who made the request -- it's mostly just where that particular fic prompt took me. *wibbles*

*goes back to writing*

ETA: Just to clarify, no one has said anything to me and I really doubt that anyone would. I'm just feeling pre-emptively guilty. :-P

I don'tthink anyone would get upset. After all regardless of who you are writing for, we all get to read and enjoy.

I would like to think that no one would get upset! I really hope not, at least.

Well, I think you're just simply FABULOUS for doing this! And for making such wonderful stories so quickly and giving everyone what they asked for. You are SO Santa! :-) I loved mine, and if you write something longer for someone else? Well, MINE is still AMAZING and WONDERFUL! That's how it works... they are stories, not formulas. *hugs*

Thanks! *grins* Stories are kind of off that way -- they sort of have minds of their own. Mine do, at least.

I hope no one would get upset, it's something for everyone to enjoy. I think just having you take their prompt and create a story would be wonderful enough. :))

Oh, do I feel your pain!! I am absolutely incapable of writing drabbles. The very shortest ficlet I have is 1,517 words long. I keep trying to write AWDT ficlets ([livejournal.com profile] jamie2109 and [livejournal.com profile] nocturnali's prompt-based weekly drabble-fest - they're meant to be under 500 words), and I fail every single time. Luckily, they don't mind, but still. It's the principle.

Honestly, I don't think any of your readers will mind at all, myself included! But it's more time-consuming for you, of course.

Good luck, and have fun! ♥

Emma, you don't *have* to do what you do. You could just up and quit at any time, and nobody has the right to think less of you. How could anyone fault you for such generosity?

You obviously get the joy out of the giving, or you wouldn't be doing this. I would be thrilled with 3 ("Let's have sex" is a good start), 30 or 300+ words.

It's the thought that counts Emma. Nobody will ever think less of you because you are so thoughtful of us all, which is why everyone loves you so much.

I got the best feedback ever from a gift fic I wrote, and I got so much pleasure out of that, I was beaming for a long, long time...

*hugs Emma*

Must be nice! : ] For me, it's usually only little fragments of stories and ideas that pop into my head and the challenge is shaping them into coherent, interesting tales with some amount of complexity. Which is probably why I produce so little -- though maybe it would get easier if I were more disciplined?

Have had extremely limited web access over the past six weeks, but I am really looking forward to reading all your holiday ficlets as soon as I can.

I was having the same problem. Funny thing, I CAN write real drabbles. I have many 100 wrd drabbles and more than a fair share of 200 wrd double drabbles under my belt. I've done close to 50 drabbles. But my holiday drabbles kept growing.

I made a vow at one point that I was not going over 300 wrds. *foot down* Um...yeah, that hasn't worked so well.

I'm trying to focus on making them a scene from the bigger piece that pops into my mind. A bunch of ppl told me the one I wrote for you seemed 'part of something bigger'. Well, it was. Only the rest of it isn't written. LOL.

Oh well...your flist worships you and I can't imagine anyone not squeeing with glee with a drabble written especially for them by you.

Oh babe, no one will care. Mine could have been 50 words long and I would have been just as excited. *smooches you all up*

Honey, you could write "Qui-Gon grabbed Obi-Wan, shoved him against the wall, ripped off his pants and took in one swift motion" and I'd be happy. :)

Plus, if you are getting overwhelmed, you are forgiven from doing mine. :D

Silly Emma, you shouldn't feel guilty. Anyone getting a holiday 'drabble' from you that's longer than 100-200 words long should be grateful. I know I'll be bouncing off the walls if you get time to do mine ... and if you don't, I'm not going to assume you hate me, I'm going to assume that the holidays ate your brain. {grins} And just be thrilled to read what you've written so far. It's a good day in fandom when you post fic ... there's been alot of good days in fandom for a bit now, then.

Same thing for me, Emma. My muse just does what she wants. I was afraid people would think that I wasn't putting much time into the shorter fics, but the truth was they take just as long because it's harder for me to write few words! AND since I asked for a song as a prompt, some of the songs just don't fit with a larger story. But I'm sure my flist will understand... 'cause they are awesome!
