I'm still alive, I swear! I've been sick for the last two weeks, which seriously fucked with my progress on finishing fics for holiday exchanges. I've been staying away from LJ in order to get a lot of writing done, but I've only felt well enough to actually write about one day in three. It sucks. :-(

I'm going to do something a little different this holiday season, something I've been wanting to do for a while. This is a time of year that everyone thinks a lot about giving, and so I'm going to highlight the organizations I regularly give money too. These run the gamut from local to state to national and international organizations. Some are charities and some are political action groups (PACs), but they all work for causes that are important to me. In a series of posts, I'll give a description of each organization and link to their web sites. My hope is that I'll inspire some people to check them out and consider supporting them too. :-)

Holiday Giving 1: Annie's List
Annie's List is a Texas PAC that was started after Republican redistricting in 2002 forced almost every single Democratic woman serving in the Texas legislature out of office. The group finds and supports progressive women to run for seats in the legislature in districts where Democrats stand a chance of winning. They organize volunteers for them, help get their campaigns started financially, and even provide trained staff to run those campaigns. It can be difficult for progressive women to get a campaign started in a good-ol-boy red state like Texas, and Annie's List gives them the head start they need. Great organization. :-)

Um.
