I've installed eFiction 3.3 on my site and am in the process of uploading every fic I've ever written there. I've been using LJ as an archive of sorts for the last couple of years; in fact most links from my web page go to LJ entries. And with everything that's happened lately, the thought of having a good chunk of my fic only on LJ is a bit disconcerting. I have a lot of it archived in other places (like Skyehawke and TQP), but there was really no single place where every bit of it was located. Well, there will be very soon!
So I'm re-reading a lot of my fic as I go, which is kind of fun, but also a bit sad. So much of what I've written is connected to someone else's work -- to a post someone made, to a piece of art someone drew, or to another fic someone wrote. And as those things get moved or flocked, all of that connectivity is being lost. I have a lot of dead links now, sadly, and I know I'm not the only one. It's not quite the same without the context, and I'm angry and saddened to see that slipping away. I understand that no one wants to be a test case for LJ Abuse, but at the same time I want to tell people not to back down so quickly, you know? *sigh* I'm not flocking any of my stuff on my own journal, FWIW.
By the way, if you have anything posted on
pornish_pixies or
erotic_elves on LJ, please go and flock it if you haven't already. If you don't do it by the comms' deadlines, your work might be deleted -- meaning that we've lost yet another bit of our fandom history. And if you are 18 or older, please go JOIN those comms so that you can still read all the good flocked stuff. More info on PP here and on EE here.
