I know, I know.
May. 30th, 2007 11:32 amFYI, I'm on JF and GJ as emmagrant01. I have very little posted over there and have only really used those journals for commenting. Feel free to friend, if you like. :-)
It's interesting to watch all of these posts about Teh Strikethrough scroll by on my flist. I think 80% of what's on my flist is about it at this moment, and like watching CNN after a disaster, I'm finding I can't get enough. Some people seem to think everyone is overreacting, and others think this is a serious threat to fandom. I'm not sure what I think, to be honest.
However, I am pissed about PP and the other fandom-related suspensions, because AFAIK those comms and users weren't doing anything wrong. They had something listed as an interest that someone complained about, and that was it. LJ has become such a big part of the fandom infrastructure because it was a safe place for us to play, and most of us pay for the services we use. If we follow the rules, we should be able to count on the service. If we don't follow the rules there are procedures in place to deal with it, and those don't seem to have been followed in this situation. That's not right, plain and simple.
But one thing I've been heartened by ever since the FanLib thing started was the way so many fandoms seem to have come together to organize themselves and fight back. As a community, we have a lot of expertise, and it's getting put to use all over the net today. I'm proud of us. :-)
Oh, and I'm not flocking anything. As if. :-P
