NOTE: This is the first draft of this story. The final version can be read HERE.

Read Surrender the Grey here.

Note: This one's especially bittersweet this particular morning. This was the original ending I outlined more than a year ago, but it became clear when I started writing that it wouldn't fit in the timeline of the main story. But I liked it far too much to just let it go, so here it is as an epilogue. Fluff!

Epilogue: 31 October, 2005 )

Thanks for everything! I'm slowly working my way through comments on the last past, but I will reply to them all. :-)

From a local TV station's web site:

The results are in from Tuesday night's election, and Proposition Two passed. Effective immediately, the Texas Constiution will now define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

Proposition Two passed by a huge margin. However, the majority of voters in Travis County voted against the amendement [sic]. [I ♥ Austin so FUCKING much!]

Here's a look at a breakdown of the numbers: 76 percent voted for Proposition Two, and 24 percent voted against.

As you can imagine Tuesday night, both sides of the issue had a lot to say.

"Ninety percent of the young people have voted against this amendment. That shows me that we got our message out," Anne Wynne with No Nonsense in November said. [Things are changing. We may have to wait for the bigots to die, but...]

"I don't know if God has spoken, but I know that when Glen Maxey says something that God is not involved in this type of issue or does not address this issue, he really clearly has about 8,000 years ago," David Contreras, Justice at the Gate, said. [Okay, what? I'm still not sure what he was trying to say. Separation of church and state mean anything to you, asshat? Oh, and Glen Maxey rocks. SO much.]

Oh, and for the record, I love this sort of thing. I have heard people suggest that some writers are weirded out by it, but IMO there's really no greater compliment for a writer than someone creating art for her fic or writing fic set in her universe. NONE. :-D

This was written as a gift for [livejournal.com profile] jexay. He pimped it on his LJ, so I hope it's all right if I make a note of it here. Just make sure you read the warnings... *grins*
