I know it isn't news anymore, since everyone else is posting about it. I'm just going to say my own goodbye.

Chris Reeve -- you did so much to push forward research in an area that desperately needed support. You brought stem cell research to the table and framed it in a way that the anti-choice coalition found difficult to ignore. You made a huge difference in the lives of so many people, even people whom you never met. I find myself deeply affected by your death, more than I am for most celebrities, and I know I'm not alone. You left your mark, and you left the world a better place than you found it.

Proposal for a novel-writing community

Thanks so much for the response on my recent post about writing novel-length fanfic. Based on many of the responses, it seems that there is interest in a community for novel-length fanfic writers. After reading through the comments and thinking about a format that might be useful and supportive, I propose to form a community focused on supporting the writing of novel-length fanfic.

This would not be a place to post novel-length fanfic -- the consensus seems to be that LJ is just not a good forum for that. What it would be instead is a discussion and support forum for this particular genre of fan fiction. If this idea is intriguing, please read on.
