  1. What's the farthest you've ever been from home?

Somewhere on the flight from Hong Kong to Dehli, I was on the other side of the planet from home. I remember thinking that was the farthest away I would ever get, and it was a weird feeling. It's even weirder when my husband and I are on opposite sides of the planet, and I realize that we couldn't be any farther apart than we are at that moment.

  2. What's your best travel memory ever?

Sitting in a land rover next to MDH and watching the sun set in the Okavango delta. Then it got dark and the southern sky was unbelievable, with the Southern Cross in all its glory and the Milky Way stretching across the sky, and animal noises off in the distance. *sigh*

  3. What is your worst travel memory?

Being at the Taj Mahal with food poisoning so bad I really thought I would die. There I was in that beautiful place, feeling the worst I've ever felt in my life. And it was a long, long trip back to Dehli, by foot, bus, taxi, train, and another taxi to a cheap hotel with no air conditioning, and it was about 110 degrees. Horrible.

  4. What languages do you speak? (Include ones that are rusty)

I studied Spanish and German at university. The Spanish is fairly passable, but the German is mostly a memory at this point. I also understand some Italian. French has always been a mystery. I can't make heads or tails of spoken French.

  5. What's the one place on earth you absolutely have to visit before you die?

Red Square in Moscow. I was a kid in the eighties, and so I remember all of that late Cold War stuff pretty keenly. I want to stand in the middle of that square and pinch myself and think about how much the world can change.
