Beta Appreciation!
Oct. 13th, 2005 08:51 pmWhen it comes to betas, I am so, so lucky. Some really amazing, thoughtful, and dedicated people have torn my fics to shreds over the last three years and pointed me in the right direction. Betaing for me can be hard work, and I want these folks to know how much I appreciate them!
helens78 was the first person who ever beta'd for me, and it led to us collaborating for a year on a series. I learned so much from Helens. Sweetie, I haven't written the phrase "quite suddenly" for over two years! ;-)
jedirita joined Helens and I a few months into QAJ, and we've been betaing for each other ever since. I can't say enough about Rita, really. She's the person who has pushed me towards the writing style I have now, and she finally helped me overcome my adverb abuse problem! She beta'd both LMH (rough draft and final draft) and STG, which has been a lot of work. She's beta'd nearly everything I've written in the last three years, in fact. I'm a much better writer today than I would have been without her guidance!
hazelhawthorne has been betaing for me since the start of STG. She's beta'd more than that since, but STG alone is a lot of work. I've been posting a chapter a week since the beginning of March, and Hazel has beta'd nearly every one, usually on a two-day turnaround.
charlotteschaos jumped in to start betaing STG in April, and she's been a great beta ever since. She's quick too, something I wish I could say when I beta for her. *whistles innocently*
snowqueenofhoth and
wyomingnot both beta'd LMH when it was being posted as a WIP. This means they read a chapter a week -- and they read them twice, because back then I did two revisions on each part!
wyomingnot beta'd the only RPS I ever wrote! :-P
littlesnitch and
_inbetween_ beta'd the final draft of LMH. I met LS for lunch and he handed me a frickin' ream of paper -- it was LMH printed out and marked up with red pen! His comments were very insightful, too.
qurinas has helped me with my femmeslash -- and darlin', you can bet I'll be asking you for your help in that area again!
emila_wan gave me one of the best betas ever about a year ago. I had spent a year working on a novella-length fic, and she read the draft and told me exactly what it was missing. On top of that, she told me what the themes were and what she thought I needed to do to make it a solid, powerful story. She helped me turn that fic into what I believe was the best Star Wars fic I wrote, and I'll always be grateful!
anise_anise beta'd my Eros Affair fic -- I wanted it to be serious smut, and she's the Queen, after all. If it gets Anise hot, you know you've done good.
brightsun301 and
claraswift beta'd a Neville fic for me once -- it was a gift for Rita, so it was one of the only fics I've written that she didn't beta.
claraswift and
elocinoco both beta'd for me back in the QAJ years, and Clara and
lauramcewan beta'd a private fic for me once. And that's all I'll say about that. ;-)
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone!
THANK YOU ALL!!!
