I was on amazon.com tonight, and in the "Your recommendations" section, there were a variety of things listed, each of which was either Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Queer as Folk. I mentioned this to my husband, and he laughed, noting that this pretty much summed up my interests these days.

This is my problem, you know. For most of my life, I have been absolutely obsessed with Star Wars. Then I started reading and writing slash, and life got even better. I had put off reading the Harry Potter books quite on purpose, completely aware that once I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. I just have that sort of OC personality, you know? I was scared, and I knew there was lots of great HP slash out there, so it was with a weird mix of trepidation and excitement that I took all five books on vacation with me this summer.

Oh. My. God.

I am now the biggest Harry/Draco shipper... It is all I can do not to start writing H/D stuff. But the new QAJ season is on the horizon! How am I going to get my head back together in time? jedirita has offered to slap me silly, and I may take her up on that. How do I balance two fandoms? Considering that I work full time?

Advice? Please?

You know, with Obi/Bruck, you have that whole enemies/lovers-Snape/Harry thing going on. Or Harry/Draco or Harry/Lucius. But Qui/Obi? That's so vanilla, like Sirius/Remus! Or Harry/Ron!

As for you, Emma, I'm going to be seeing you tomorrow, and I'm bringing my slapping gloves! Ya know, with Qui/Xan, you have that whole love you-hate you thing like with Harry/Draco....

This is true! It's one of the things I love about Xan pairings. The more I read, the less I like the vanilla stuff, I find. I also find it interesting that I'm not terribly fond of pairings with a big age difference in HP (Harry/Snape, Harry/Lucius, Harry/Sirius, etc), even though I like Qui/Obi. Is it because the HP universe is not in the GFFA?

That's true, and it's made me think a lot about the whole Qui/Obi thing. Harry/Sirius makes me a little uncomfortable, and I've been trying to read a lot of it just because it makes me slightly uncomfortable. Why does 15-year-old Harry in bed with (35-year old) Siruis bother me while 15-year-old Obi in bed with (50-year-old?) Qui doesn't so much? Is it because the HP universe is closer to reality than the GFFA?

And this also brings up my big issue with Qui/Obi: it *is* an inapropriate relationship, and people just don't seem to want to deal with that in fic. But that's what makes the pairing interesting in the first place!

Which fandom did you start in? I was under the impression that you were in HP first, but I have no idea why I thought that. BTW, I should send you some fb on the HP stuff of yours I've read. "The Pandora Complex" -- I laughed my ass off! Oh, wow...

TPM was the first fandom I was involved in to any degree. I shopped around a bit when I first discovered fanfic and slash, read an X-men story here, a Xena story there, finally ended up on MA and started writing. My interest in HP came along about 6 months later, but I resisted actively participating for another 3 months.

Glad you liked Pandora. I've always thought the ending a bit rushed, so it's on the list of fics I want to edit. Unfortunately, that list is ten miles long and is in a lineup of other lists so I'm not sure when I'll get to it. *pokes the Q/O and wishes it would edit itself*

Oh, man. I am so no help at all. :/ I think our only hope is to buckle down and start writing some QAJ stuff, maybe some of the Contre la Montre challenges, and giving them serious, QAJ-level betas, and knocking them out as "tease pieces" before season 2 gets started. That might work...! Then at least we'd be in the right mindset. I hope!

Ya know, I've been thinking a lot about QAJ, and I pretty much have the first episode mapped out in my head. I just need to sit down and write it. I also need to review the end of the season, though, since it's been a while.

The idea of tease pieces is really intriguing though... Hmmm... Will chat with Rita about this today!

Aye aye cap'n. I've got a list of all the CLM challenges on my hard drive. Now the real question is going to be where do we pick up with those tease pieces. The temptation to work on Dooku's relationship with Aubris is going to be insane, because my brain has *so* been in the evil place lately, and -- believe it or not, I'm more interested in Dooku than having an excuse to work with the Bean-based QAJ boy. Dooku intrigues the hell out of me.

hmmmm. two fandoms work fine. I'm also in the Star Wars and in the Harry Potter fandom. More than 2 constitute a problem. I can't give you advice on how to balance them, but I promise that you'll get really picky in what you read and what you don't read. Also, you'll never have enough time to write all that plotbunnies (but that's the problem of every fic-author, I believe).

Being picky is good advice, I think. I've just been doing a lot of reading in HP lately, just to see what's out there. When QAJ was in full swing, I did almost no reading at all, because there just wasn't time. I'm hoping I'll be able to compromise a bit next season!

Oh, yeah -- that is absolutely what happened to me. Star Wars and RPS, now, and pickiness and not-enough-time are absolutely issues. So far I haven't been tested on whether I can really handle both at once, but I suspect when QAJ starts coming back, I'm going to be cutting back on some of my RPS time.
