Harry Potter is SO gay.
Aug. 2nd, 2005 08:04 pmI'm re-reading HBP, and I'm just stunned by the amount of evidence in this book that Harry is a very close friend of Dorothy's.
1. During the entire book, girls are drooling after him in the corridors, flirting with him, standing under mistletoe when he walks by, trying to trick him into taking love potions, and so on. And Harry's response? Annoyance. I mean, come on! He's sixteen! Do you know any straight 16-year-old boys who wouldn't take advantage of the opportunity to get some in that situation? I mean, look at Ron -- he jumps at the chance to make out with Lavender, and he doesn't even like her.
2. He takes Luna Lovegood to Slughorn's party. Can anyone say "fag hag"?
3. He's completely obsessed with Draco Malfoy. For the whole book. Nuff said.
4. The girl he actually likes is a tomboy. Hell, she's almost a female version of him. And once he's gotten a snog or two, he loses interest pretty quickly. She doesn't lose any sleep over the break-up either, by the way. *coughs* beard *coughs*
5. He spends an enormous amount of time and energy trying to make Ron feel better about himself, even when he's being an utter prick. Maybe the crush he has on a certain red-head is a little misplaced...
6. He notices how handsome young Tom Riddle is. Repeatedly.
7. He's actually disappointed when Draco doesn't show up to play Quidditch, and his thoughts immediately turn away from Quidditch to wonder what Draco is doing. This is the same boy who lived for Quidditch just a few short months ago.
8. He keeps noticing what Draco looks like in amazing detail. Okay, okay... the Draco obsession is obvious enough, isn't it?
And these were added by
marksykins:
9. Anyone who can blurt out the phrase "There's no need to call me sir, professor" without thinking is flirting at least a little. Also note that Snape is not once described as ugly in HBP. Sallow skin? Check. Greasy hair? Check. Hooked nose? You betcha! Ugly? Not anymore, apparently, though his mother is 'not pretty'.
10. Characters described as handsome by Harry:
- Firenze
- Tom Riddle, Sr. (who, er, disturbingly enough is also described as handsome by Dumbledore more than once)
- Tom Riddle, Jr.
- Madame Maxime
Characters described as pretty by Harry:
- Tom Riddle, Sr's girlfriend, Cecilia
- Goyle
11. He immediately notices Malfoy's clothes upon seeing him at the robe shop. What straight boy does this, honestly?
12. He mentions Draco's hair as blond four times (white-blond twice), and repeatedly mentions the huge blond Death Eater. Fleur's pale blond hair is mentioned several times, too. Red hair? Ginny's is mentioned four times, too, but Harry notices Arthur's, Ron's, and Percy's Weasley red heads, too. I think he just has a hair fetish.
13. People Harry describes as pale when they're not sick? Draco and Tom Riddle. :D Narcissa is described as pale, but only in Chapter 2, and everyone else is ill or has had a fright. Oh, and once for Snape, though it's right after The Event, so it could go either way. Draco has a couple instances where he's clearly ill, too, so he also could go both ways (*cough*).
14. His brain practically melts when he thinks he's killed Draco. (from
unglue)
15. Veelas (or in this case Fleur) still don't affect him. (from
oconel)
16. And he even follows Malfoy's movements to his bed on the Marauder's map. (from
oconel) Emma: Hey, since when does he know where Malfoy's bed is, anyway?
17. He spends a third of the book angsting over having to choose between Ginny and Ron. (from
_almagitana)
18. And of course, there was the love potion scene. He found that he was breathing very slowly and deeply and that the potion's fumes seemed to be filling him up like drink. A great contentment stole over him; he grinned across at Ron... (from
kerryblaze)
HBP is proof that JKR loves H/D shippers and wants us to be happy.

- Tom Riddle, Sr's girlfriend, Celeste
- Goyle
*dies*
Other evidence:
- He immediately notices Malfoy's clothes upon seeing him at the robe shop. What straight boy does this, honestly?
- He mentions Draco's hair as blond four times (white-blond twice), and repeatedly mentions the huge blond Death Eater. Fleur's pale blond hair is mentioned several times, too. Red hair? Ginny's is mentioned four times, too, but Harry notices Arthur's, Ron's, and Percy's Weasley red heads, too. I think he just has a hair fetish.

What I've concluded is Harry notices hair, eyes, complexions, and wardrobe an awful lot; he never thinks of Ginny as pretty, attractive, or good-looking (though other people say so frequently); and he sure notices Malfoy's hair, skin, and eyes more often than any other character that I've noticed. It's pale grey eyes this and sleek blond head that. Oh yeah. :D

Anyway, Yep. Harry's gay. Most definitely. :)
Didn't JKR say in an interview that she wouldn't be opposed to Harry being gay anyway?

Date: 2005-08-03 03:40 am (UTC)Well, Draco would be into melodrama. But mostly to make a point. Otherwise ...
I wish she could get him be gay. She can't; she'd be villified if in book seven she sprang that on the world. But it wouldn't surprise me if, a few years after seven's printed and sold, she has an interview that talks about how she always wanted to ...
