Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] emma_recs. I just needed to squee about this fic twice, so bear with me!

Title: Last Man Standing, by Jedi Rita ([livejournal.com profile] jedirita)
Rating: "is for films, not literature"
Warning: domestic violence - physical, emotional, sexual abuse; these are not happy puppies
Summary: Remus and Sirius live for a year at No. 12 Grimmauld Place.

I have been waiting a long, long time to enthusiastically pimp recommend this particular fic. Rita, as many people know, is not only one of my very best friends, but also one of my favorite writers. But don't think that has blinded me in this case -- this fic is stunning. It's intense, it's fresh, it's emotional, it's gripping, it's gritty, and it's imminently readable, as all of Rita's work is. This is a fresh take on the Sirius/Remus relationship that hints at Snape/Lupin to come and feels like it could be canon. The story runs parallel to the events of Order of the Phoenix but is told from Remus's perspective as he lives with Sirius at Grimmauld Place for a year. Rita gets inside Remus's head, to great effect. This isn't fluffy Sirius/Remus -- that may pique some folks' interest and worry others. In either case, you should read it.

No, you didn't bully me. It's just that I didn't understand your point in earlier drafts. Or maybe your point changed slightly in this draft. At any rate, when I thought long and hard about that scene, then your suggestion made a lot of sense.

And yes, I'm still planning on the concert! What time is it? When should I arrive? At this point my afternoon is clear so I could come up in time for dinner or something?

The concert is at 8:00 and the place is a good half-hour drive from my house, so ideally, we could leave around 7:00 to park and get comfy. I'll be home from mid-afternoon on, so come when you want. I'll fix us something for dinner.

Oh, and bring your swimsuit if you want. We can get in the jacuzzi later. ;-)

Cool! And I can spend the night, right? I think you said you have to be at work at 10:00 the next morning? I'll certainly need to get back. But it would be nice not to have to drive home again that night.

Oh, you can absolutely spend the night! :-)

I have a meeting at 10:00, which means I'll need to leave around 9:00. Not so bad.
