UPS says that my deeelux copy of HBP is currently overnighting in Mesquite, TX. I have no idea where the fuck that is.

But it doesn't matter, because I'm actually picking up another copy in Las Vegas Friday night with the ConStrict folks! *squees* Three whole days of slashy fun! I'm so excited!

It's right outside of Dallas actually. I grew up in the DFW area, and I'll quit being a smartass now.

My copy is somewhere close to me in California and shipped yesterday, does that mean I might get it tomorrow?

Oooh, really? Well, geez, couldn't they have driven it another three hours???

Actually, I'm not sure when you're supposed to get them.

I pre-ordered my OotP. UPS will deliver it early (7-10am) on the 16th :)

Mesquite? That's, like, in the middle of nowhere. I didn't know they were even allowed to ship them yet. Cool.

The logistics of getting the books where they are going have been as complicated as any potion that the Hogwarts School might have concocted.

United Parcel Service, which said it was transporting most of the books, has been preparing for months to orchestrate a "seamless" delivery to neighborhood post offices by Friday so that mail carriers can then deposit them at homes Saturday, spokesman Steve Holmes said. (Had UPS been asked to deliver them directly, it would cost too much because its Saturday rates are higher, he said.)

The last high-profile UPS job that called for this much "security" involved getting the 9/11 Commission Report to every recipient with a preorder on July 22, he said.

"It was the same situation — could not arrive early, could not arrive late," Holmes said. "They wanted everyone to be able to open the commission report and see it at the same time."

Where in Vegas will you be getting your copy?

It's a Barnes & Noble on Maryland Parkway. Do you live in Las Vegas?

Yup, and I work in the only bookstore in any hotel/casino on the Strip. *grins with pride at store* We're staying open an extra hour just to sell copies of Book 6.

But I'm getting my copy from a Borders near where I live. Cheaper there (or B&N) than if I get it where I work, even with my employee discount.

How long will you be in Vegas?

For the weekend. I'll be at a slash con called ConStrict (http://www.randomadventures.com/constrict/index.htm). If you have time and are interested in attending, I'm pretty sure you could register on-site. :-)

Two copies? Wow!

Though I'm also guilty of having multiple copies at home...(^_~) What are you planning to do with the extra copy?

Well, the regular copy will be the one I'll start reading while I'm in LV, and then as soon as I get home, I'll switch over to the deluxe copy. :-P

I own five copies of OOTP: the US hardback, the US paperback, the UK hardback, the UK adult cover hardback, and a special clothbound UK edition. I've never opened three of those.

Is it true that the UK version is different from the US?

From: [identity profile] emmagrant01.livejournal.com
Yes, it is, but it's mostly just language differences. The US editions, especially the earlier books, were "translated" into American English. As a result, some things are phrased slightly differently. Interestingly, they didn't change the language as much for OOTP. Maybe they think the American fans are getting used to Britglish? ;-) Of course, I've talked to American readers who actually had trouble understanding anything the Weasleys said in that book!

Hmm...sounds very interesting! I'm going to get my UK copy when all 7 books are published to save on shipping...I can't wait to decipher the Weasleys' "secret" language! (^_~)

Yeah, Mesquite is a suburb of Dallas. It's maybe a half an hour drive from me, and I'm 20 minutes north of Dallas. :)

What's the difference between the deluxe and the regular versions? I saw the two different covers and was jealous because all I'm getting in Tminus24.5 hours (SQUEEE!!) is the regular version and wondering if I'm getting jipped or something.. boo

I was just in Vegas last week for a wedding, fun times. Have a fabulous time at the convention!! :)

The deluxe edition apparently has this:

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6) Deluxe Edition
ANNOTATION
This Deluxe Edition will include a 32-page insert on special paper at the end of the book featuring near scale reproductions of Mary GrandPré's interior art, as well as a never-before-seen piece of full-color-art for the frontispiece. The book, which comes in a foil-stamped cardboard slipcase printed with the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince cover image, will also include a blind-stamped cloth case, full-color endpapers printed with the jacket art from the regular edition, luxurious foil, and a wraparound jacket featuring exclusive, suitable-for-framing art from Mary GrandPré.

It sounded kinda cool. :-P
