After listening to the president's SotU address last night, today I'm angry, frightened, and depressed. However, it was so comforting to look at my f-list last night and see and overwhelming number of posts by people expressing the exact same sentiments. *hugs f-list*

Here's something to add to your collective disgust:

Feds Hide Snafus Behind Cloak of National Security: "Federal agencies are using secrecy rules developed after the 9/11 attacks to hide embarrassing or controversial reports and data that the federal government once routinely made public."

And THIS is hilarious! GO LOOK! :-D

Right Wing Ralphie

Even this didn't move you?

Honestly, no. I am still far too angry about so many things he said and implied, on many, many issues. Do the ends justify the means? Bush seems to think so. This admininstration is so very good at telling us what they want us to think and believe about what they've done, facts be damned. If you lie to yourself enough, you start to believe it, I guess.

I'm sick of being told I should support my president and the actions of my country, even though I disagree with them. I'm tired of being told what it means to be patriotic. I'm tired of watching the Democrats punt again and agin, and not take a stand. Many, many people feel the same way I do and for a variety of reasons, don't say anything. History is full of people who did just that and regretted it.

I really want to vomit now.

I am so in agreement with you on this that I want to cry. And I also want to cry for my ineffectiveness because, beyond voting, I do nothing further about it.

But on the humor front, "Ralphie" is too, too ridiculously funny.

What are we supposed to be moved by? I'm sorry, I didn't see the State of the Union; I read it this morning. I am moved every single time a soldier makes it to his or her home safely, but I still can't ignore the stupidity, rapacious ego and mindless lack of attention to both detail and long term consequences that put those troops there in the first place.

Good lord that's ^ a large photo!

I love how super queer they made li'l ol' Ralphie. Aside from his fairy wings, he sure does love to hold some man hand.

Thanks for the hysterical link!

And no worries about Bushy - no matter what he does, he's out of office in four years.

Yeah, but it's what he manages to fuck up while he's there that's the problem. :(

Without question. But he's unlikely to be impeached and removed from office, so whilst maintaining a steady focus on trying to improve what one can, a positive attitude should make things slightly easier, yeah?

Listen, if one wants me to list the things that make me sick, I'm happy to do so. Bush' strategies, vocabulary, short attention span, refusal to develop real, long range strategies before he dives into things, his impossibly short sighted hindering of stem cell research, his completely wrecking a very real chance that the US and Iran had for some, at least, limited rapproachment...I could go on and on. But in the meantime, I will also look to the positive, so that I don't go completely insane between now and 2008.

Cheer up. More elections in 2 years, and then maybe we can get some power back. Did you enjoy the booing and jeering from the dems as much as I did?

I feel sometwhat stupid... But I missed it ^-^''' What was it about? (It'll be probably on the news later on... But living outside the states makes following your politics complicated, sometimes.)

Thanks... *sighs* He's at it, again.

But some governments will be timid in the face of terror. And make no mistake about it: If they do not act, America will.

Yeah, right. And invade Europe, again, without our consent.
Whether attacking Iraq was the right thing or not, is kind of a moot point. But Bush can't keep doing whatever the hell he wants just because there's no one to stop him.

I was a little too bitter to comment on the State of the Union last night, but yes, I was very discouraged by it. I think the Democrat response summed it up pretty well (though my interpretation is slightly more vulgar): Same shit, different day, nothing accomplished.

Aww I love fairy wings on little Right Wing Ralphy.

I'll admit, I was sort of hoping it was going to be Ralph Wiggum, who seems to be as adequate (although likely too good-natured) representative for the Republican party as any.

no problem :)

a scene from "the two towers":
[frodo] what's in this? (referring to a small box of sam's)
[sam] nothing. just a bit of seasoning. i thought maybe if we were having a roast chicken one night or something...
[disbelieving!frodo] roast chicken!?
[defensive!sam] you never know...
[frodo] sam, my dear sam...
[sam] it's very special, that. it's the best salt in all the shire.
[frodo] it is special. it's a little bit of home.

::share gooey-eyed completely platonic nostalgic look::

a few minutes later...
[frodo] nothing ever dampens your spirits, does it, sam?

which i love because i think it effectively sums up sam's character, tolkien- and jackson-wise. if you couldn't tell, samwise holds a very special place in mah heart...:)

On the plus side, the Nevada democrat who responded used language directly from George Lakoff's book "Don't Think of an Elephant," when he talked about taxes as an investment in our country, like the highway systems and schools. I'm SO GLAD that some high-ranking dems are reading it! And I believe Howard Dean wrote the intro do it.

Girl, if you haven't read that book yet, you have GOT to. You will understand what's going on with Bush, and you will understand what the liberals/progressives need to do to get our act together.
