Holy shit, but this is good writing. The characterizations, the universe-building, the details, and OMG the smoking-hot sex -- all of it is amazing. About halfway through this fic I realized this was the Kirk/McCoy fic I've been waiting to read. Gorgeous.

Okay, there will probably be some fic about this one...

If you are a Kirk/McCoy fan, you have to go read this short fic (Unlisted Side Effects of Metacetamin-Derived Opiates) by fahye. With accompanying porny art by lizardspots, OMG!! It pretty much represents everything I love about these characters, wrapped up into one shiny, sexy little package. YUM. :-D

I'm currently reading the novelization of Star Trek, which is an interesting experience. It's been a while since I've read pro sci-fi, and I forgot how dry and emotionless it can be. The book is also surprisingly messy, with glaring continuity errors, almost as if ADF kept going back and editing as he saw cuts of the film. It needs a good beta. :-P

It's kind of fun to read the fleshed-out version of the screenplay, though it still reads like fanfic. I'm enjoying seeing Kirk presented as a major slut, for example. There's this whole exchange where Uhura and her Orion roommate talk about the fact that Kirk has fucked his way through half the cadet corps, including some of the non-humanoids. Notice how there's no mention of gender there? Heh. He's like the Jack Harkness of the Trek world! Oh, and that exchange, btw, was preceded by the PG-est description of oral sex I have ever read. ;-)

Anyway, reading that book has sparked my interest in Spock/Uhura, so I went looking for fic. Okay, I went looking for porn, really. And there was not much to be found. Horror of horrors, the vast majority of S/U fic seems either to be PG (gasp!) or all about pon farr. And I'm just not that interested in reading pon farr fics right now. Maybe it's because that trope has been co-opted into every possible fandom (veela!Draco, pon-farr!Qui-Gon, and every other variation of fuck-or-die out there) to the point of being boring, but it just seems like lazy writing at this point. It's way too easy a tool to hook Spock up with people. I want more than that, you know?

I think I'm going to have to write a Spock/Uhura fic. One is forming in my mind, and I'm almost ready to start working on it. I haven't written for almost 18 months, but I think I'm ready to give it a try. Woo!

THIS fic by phaballa is probably the funniest bit of crackfic I have ever read*. Seriously. I don't even know who those characters are. It's original fic, as far as I'm concerned, and I seriously snorted some coffee through my nose while reading it. And am now late for an appointment, fuck.

*Okay, the funniest since she wrote that Anderson Cooper/Jon Stewart fic that I also thought was the funniest thing ever.
