Just to clarify:
Jul. 28th, 2004 07:17 amThis post was entirely tongue-in-cheek. I was actually flattered to see that someone listed LMH on
fanfic_hate! I mean, if you scan some of the posts, you'll see it's in some great company!
That comm is, ironically, a huge REC LIST for all the fandoms that get flamed there. Think about it: almost all of the posts are along the lines of, "Everybody loved Fic X, but I hated it!" or, "I hate everything ever written by Writer Y and I don't understand why everybody else fangirls her!" I've actually found some great reads just by scanning the posts there.
People are more than entitled to their opinions, and that comm gives them a place to express a sentiment they're obviously embarrassed to express using their real names. I do know what it feels like to hold an unpopular opinion and feel like I have to bite my tongue about it around everyone else, just to avoid getting into arguments constantly. I am, after all, a liberal in a conservative state.
So, go ahead and post your anonymous comments on
fanfic_hate, if it makes you feel better! And thanks in advance for all the great recs! ;-)

Date: 2004-07-28 06:57 am (UTC)I hadn't ever read Irresistible Poison until I saw all the flack it got there. So I popped over to read it, and was totally obsessed with it for the four days it took to read it all! It was fantastic, and I found myself wondering if the people who complained about it read the same fic I did.
there are a few very popular fics that don't do a thing for me and I'm not ashamed to admit it: because different people have different tastes, big deal.
Hear, hear. I think part of the "appeal" of anonymous posting is that it allows people to flame the author/fic, something they'd never have the guts to do in person. If I don't like a fic, I feel like I have two options: 1) I can just shrug and move on and not worry about it, or 2) I can formulate a critique of it and share it with the writer. I've done both.
As always: wishing I was in any way into SW, so I could enjoy The Bodyguard :o(
How sweet! I am SO proud of that fic, and also incredibly relieved that it's finally done! I'll be happy if half a dozen people read it. :-)

I'm extremely ignorant about the new - or old, as the case may be - SW universe; I really only know episodes IV-VI...
Really? You haven't seen Eps 1 and 2 at all?
If you're seriously considering reading The Bodyguard, little knowledge about the Republic Jedi is assumed. In fact, the first half of the fic is written from the perspective of a character who doesn't know very much about the Jedi. And of course, there's hot sex, and a few plot twists... *grins*

Everytime you post or update a SW fic, I think "Damn... if only you'd know the movies..."
I love your writing, and I'd love to read those stories as well, but it's just not the same if you don't know the characters (except Jar-Jar Binks ... what a coincidence ;) But I only know him because that was the chat nickname of a guy I once dated *grins*)).
I think I'll have a look at that "rec list" as well ... I've rather run out of fics to read at the moment, and noone seems to update.
I'm *so* looking forward to "Left my Heart" - and the sequel... any idea what the title will be (would you tell, anyway? ;)).
Unfortunately I was a little slow making up my mind to send you my thoughts ... and suddenly, you were gone *sighs* Stupid me.
But I guess there wouldn't have been much constructive criticism, anyway... I'm way to biased! ;)

Date: 2004-07-28 04:46 pm (UTC)BTW, it isn't too late to send me any concrit you might have on LMH! The rewriting process is coming along, but it's a layered thing, in the sense that I'll make five or six passes over the fic before I'm satisfied. (I'm currently on pass #2.) If you have any comments you think I'd find useful, please feel free to send them my way! (emmagrant01@aol.com).

Date: 2004-07-28 05:32 pm (UTC)What did she write? I tried to go to her LJ, but couldn't get to it for some reason. And yeah, a lot of those posts do come across as jealous and petty flames, don't they. There are a few that offer constructive criticism, of course. It's just too bad that so many people feel that negative about fanfic that they have to vent there.
Oh, and have I told you that I love your icon? Is he your Draco muse for "A Thousand Beautiful Things"?

Date: 2004-07-30 08:39 am (UTC)Oh, I know that feeling... When I came back from Bulgaria at the end of May, it took me about four or five days to read all the stuff I had missed - and I had only been gone for a week!
But I enjoyed it soooo much! :)
I don't know if you've read it, it's been up since long before you left, but I could recommend "Phoenix Song" by xylodemon.
I'll see if I can find some advice worth sending you tomorrow or on Sunday!
