Predictably, right-wingers are flooding the office with calls.

Since we are trying to pass a slew of marriage and domestic partner bills here in California, it's a good time to show support on the issue.

Have you confirmed that this is a legitimate number? I can imagine some starting a meme or forwarding a message and everyone getting charged to the telephone bills.

I LOFF Google.com ... you google the phone number, and the results include entries in the phone book. Right on top? Governor of California's office. Try it for yourself.

I didn't think of that at all because I (a) recognized the area code as Sacramento's and not a "charge" number, and (b) I had already called it myself and thought it was legitimate. I can say is that if someone went to all the trouble to create such an elaborate phone answering system just for a joke, I'd really be impressed with their initiative!
